Paul Ricoeur is one of the most important French philosophers in the 20 th century. He has made some contributions to phenomenology, hermeneutics, narratology and so on.His research on narrative mainly focuses on Time and Narrative(1983-1985),From Text to Action(1986),and the Self as an Other(1990),involving the main domains of time, history, philosophy of action, and philosophy of the subject. From a macro point of view,Ricoeur’s narrative thought mainly plays an intermediary role in the network of his thoughts, connecting the real world with the dimension of the readers.Among them, one end is the pure reality in the sense of time and phenomenology, which can be “events” as the subject;the other end is the world perceived by the subject.Narrative realizes the interpretation of reality, and also becomes the interpretation tool for the subject to understand the world. Therefore,Ricoeur’s narratology is a kind of practical narrative thought closely related to reality.Specific performance for the following three aspects.First, abstractly,“events” can only be captured by consciousness on the basis of phenomenological reduction and hermeneutic interpretation. At the level of being told, events are woven through “discourse”;Under the further specification of language, events are presented in text, which is the narration of events.Specifically,as visible forms of events, actions, history, etc.,are also expressed in narrative ways.Secondly, the narration of events has undergone three kinds of epistemological imitation:pre-imitation,imitation and re-imitation.These three stages are the main contents of Ricoeur’s narratology, which mainly refer to the author’s preconstruction of reality, the text’s dramatizing of reality, and the reader’s acceptance. Finally, narratology points to reality again.Readers,as living subjects, regard narrative works as an ethical testing ground and understand events in reality under the education or inspiration of narrative.
