Moritz Altenried in The Digital Factory: The Human Labor of Automation provides first-hand information about new forms of digital labor. This translation project selects the fifth chapter of the book as its source text. This chapter discusses digital labor in social media and other platforms and reveals the human labor looming behind big data analytics, algorithm architecture and cloud computing. It offers reference for exploring issues concerning the impact of technology on labor and may promotes domestic scholars’ research on digital labor.Based on the features of the source text, the translator selected eco-translatology as the theoretical framework of this project.According to eco-translatology,translation is an activity of the translator’s adaptive selections and the translation method is summarized as three-dimensional transformations that focus on the linguistic, cultural and communicative dimensions. This report discusses the translator’s adaptive selections in handling translation difficulties based on the three-dimensional transformations. In the linguistic dimension, taking the linguistic differences between the English and Chinese languages into consideration, the translator adopted conversion of part of speech, transformation of sentence pattern and restructuring to adapt to the way of expression in Chinese. In the cultural dimension, annotation is employed to convey the cultural connotations of proper nouns and units of measurement that are absent in the target culture. In the communicative dimension, contextual amplification and paraphrasing are applied to convey information accurately and effectively to achieve the communicative purpose. It is hoped that this project can provide inspiration for dealing with similar texts or similar translation problems.
