| Imagery,as the inevitable element both in ancient Chinese literature and in contemporary literature, also exist in Shijing. And one of the Chinese classics,Shijing, also contains numerous imagery metaphors. So to convey the metaphorical meaning is the key for translators, also a difficulty for ancient Chinese literature to go out. Therefore,it is essential to conduct a study on imagery metaphors in Shijing.Although the studies of imagery translation have made great achievements, mainly in Cognitive Linguistics,Pragmatics,Aesthetics, and Poetics, etc.,there are still few studies and attention on the imagery metaphors in Shijing from the perspective of Embodied-Cognitive Translatology. Therefore, mainly using qualitative, quantitative, and comparative research methods, this thesis firstly selects the natural imagery metaphors in The She King and conducts an embodied-cognitive analysis of them. Then it analyzes the differences of imagery metaphors with interactive embodiment and cognitive processing.Lastly, this paper concludes the translation methods chosen by James Legge, mainly retaining the same imagery, revising the original imagery in the target language, replacing the original imagery with a new imagery in the target language and translating the metaphorical meaning with understanding. Therefore, this thesis makes a conclusion:With the principle of “Reality-Cognition-Language”,this research finds that most of the natural imagery in Shijing boast the same “embodied-cognitive”,with the translation at linguistic level. As for some culture-loaded imagery with different understandings, the translation contains realistic level and cognitive level. Therefore, the differences of imagery metaphors in Shijing rely on the different“embodied-cognitive”.If the cognitive difference can be solved or minimized, readers will have a deeper understanding of Shijing and imagery metaphors in it. |
