Shanghae Serial is a missionary Chinese newspaper issued during the late Qing Dynasty and early Republican period, and its corpus is basically kept in its historical form, with a broad coverage of social and cultural life, rich and informative language, and a high degree of reflection of actual language. Thus,Shanghae Serial is a reliable corpus for studying the language of the late Qing Dynasty and has high research value. This paper examines the lexical system, word aggregation, and Sino-Japanese flow of words, and summarizes its lexical research value. The main body includes the following aspects:The first part is a comprehensive examination of the lexical system of Shanghae Serial.Firstly,we electronically organize the corpus of the Shanghae Serial, build a corpus of the raw words of the Shanghae Serial, and use word separation and annotation software to annotate the words and form a valid word list of the Shanghae Serial.Secondly,we analyzed the lexical system of Shanghae Serial from the Talks by applying the theories related to lexical measurement and statistics, and classified each word into absolute high-frequency words, relative high-frequency words, and low-frequency words according to its cumulative coverage rate, and outlined the overall appearance of the lexical system of Shanghae Serialfrom these three aspects. In the second part,we study the characteristic vocabulary of the Shanghae Serial. The distinctive features of the vocabulary of the Shanghae Serial are mainly manifested in the large number of word-form clusters and a number of Sino-Japanese flow words, which are also the most intuitive research value of the vocabulary of the Shanghae Serial. Therefore, this paper selects two "points" to study, namely, morphological clustering and Sino-Japanese flow words,in order to highlight the lexical characteristics of the corpus and to combine the points with the surface. This section is divided into two chapters:First,we examine the morphological clustering of the Shanghae Serial. The vocabulary of the Sixth Series shows a certain instability, which is evident in the anomalies of word forms, the proliferation of homographs and anagrams. The homographs and anagrams appearing in the Shanghae Serial are examined from both the common and epochal perspectives. The development of homographs and anagrams in modern Chinese is examined from both a common and an ephemeral perspective.Secondly, the Chinese and Japanese flowing words in the Shanghae Serial are exhaustively examined. The Chinese-Japanese flowing words of the Shanghae Serial refer to the Chinese words that were borrowed from Japanese in the process of the introduction of the missionary Chinese writings represented by the Shanghae Serialinto Japan.According to the different ways of borrowing, they are divided into "borrowed words," "modified words," and "kana words. At the same time, the conceptualization theory is applied to explore the lexical changes of Chinese and Japanese flow words in both languages, and to summarize the types and patterns of lexical changes. In the third part, the lexical research study of Shanghae Serial is summarized.Firstly, from a bibliographical point of view, the research value of the Shanghae Serial is discussed based on the corpus of the Shanghae Serial itself.Secondly, from the lexicographical point of view, the practical value of the lexical study of Shanghae Serial for dictionary compilation is further revealed from the aspects of adding word lists, complementing justice items and enriching book evidence. |
