With the development of global economy and the increase of social and cultural exchanges worldwide,various forms of cultural and social interactions are cropping up.So are cultural medium.Music,as a traditional entertainment tool,enriches people’s life.Compared to western pop music,Chinese music however is overshadowed by its counterparts,enjoying less popularity worldwide in comparison.Reasons for this phenomenon can be boiled down to three: differences in pronunciation system,cross-cultural barriers,and requirements for both musicology and translation technique,all of which render song dubbing a peripheral topic in China.Against this backdrop,pentathlon principle,a globally famous translation theory brought up in 2003 by Peter Low was chosen to help resolve this problem.Featuring on the use of five criteria,namely singability,sense,naturalness,rhythm,and rhyme to analyze and assess the quality of translated texts,this theory is relatively systematic,practical and user-oriented.As for texts,source texts,or original lyrics were chosen from Melody C2 E,which is a Wechat public account established by students from Shanghai International Studies University aiming to spread Chinese music abroad.Text analysis method was used during the process of analyzing each text.After analyzing the text,useful strategies and suggestions were summarized according to the author’s findings.
