Learning anxiety is one of the most important emotional factors in the process of learning a second language. Many international students who study in China, can’t return back to China due to epidemic and they learned the Chinese language in their countries through the online learning process. This study’s main objective is to analyze Chinese language learning anxiety among international students. The study used the questionnaire and interview methods for empirical results. This study interviewed six international students from Guizhou University and investigated the overall anxiety of international students during learning the Chinese language in online classes. Also, explored students’ anxiety levels under different dimensions and examined the relevant factors that affect international students learning anxiety during online classes. The study shows international students in China have learning anxiety in the process of learning the Chinese language during online classes during the New Coronary Pneumonia epidemic. The level of learning anxiety is generally moderate.Among the five dimensions of communicative anxiety, are examination anxiety, negative evaluation anxiety, online classroom anxiety, and epidemic anxiety.Among all anxiety, the mean value of the epidemic anxiety dimension has the highest, indicating that epidemic anxiety has the most prominent during learning the Chinese language online. The mean value of the other anxiety dimensions such as online classroom anxiety,Chinese communicative anxiety, negative evaluation anxiety, and Chinese test anxiety,i.e.,the mean value of the Chinese test anxiety dimension has the lowest.Furthermore, based on the statistical analysis of the questionnaire data and analysis of the interview results. The study has found the five factors that significantly influenced the learning anxiety of international students during the online classroom have classroom communication, classroom evaluation,test-taking mentality, physical and mental health, and network distance. The background factors have mainly the time factor of learning the Chinese language, the education factor, the factor of whether they have asked to open the camera, and the software factor of the class. In contrast, the background factors of gender,HSK level, and age of international students,do not have a significant effect on their learning anxiety.Based on the above findings, the study has proposed corresponding suggestions for both teachers and students. In order to provide a reference for future teaching and research on the Chinese language as a foreign language.Hopefully to inspire teachers who teach online classes and help international students who study in online classes. |
