Xu Bangda’s Thought Of Calligraphy And Painting Appraisal

After the founding of New China,people’s ideas,methods and theories of calligraphy and painting appraisal have changed.From the previous emphasis on practical experience,to the pursuit of systematic theoretical direction.Xu Bangda,as the authority of connoisseur and painting appraisal in this period,what are his views on calligraphy and painting appraisal and what are his influences? With such questions,this paper studies his appraisal thoughts on calligraphy and painting based on his works.It focuses on the detailed research from five aspects: the activities he participated in,the discussion of his appraisal thoughts of calligraphy and painting,the comparative analysis with the thoughts of connoisseurs of the same period,the research on the practical application of his appraisal thoughts of calligraphy and painting,the significance of his appraisal thoughts of calligraphy and painting.
