Director Imamura Shōhei is a representative of Japanese New Wave films and has twice won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.In his 40-year career,he has always adhered to the firm position of the understratum narration,so his films are also called “populace films”.He focused his cameras on the living conditions of women on the margins of Japanese society,He explains the theme with a sexual description,showing a strong vitality of women.At the same time,starting from the historical background of the characters,he adheres to a profound reflective attitude to the current situation of Japanese society after World War II,and he is committed to the exploration of the value of individual life and national subjectivity with the spirit of critical realism.As a special group among women,marginalized women are the members and participants of society,but it was forgotten or ignored by people frequently.Feminists represented by Beauvoir emphasize that women,as "others",are in a passive position in the social status.This kind of passivity is more obvious in marginalized women group.In addition to those people with low social status or economic strength,marginalized women also include the marginalisation of sex and love controlled by patriarchal ideology in the whole society.By studying the marginalized woman in Masahira Imamura’s films,we can have a deeper understanding of the efforts of women in Japan and even the world have made in pursuit of gender equality and personality independence and the value of this act.This paper takes the relevant theories of feminism as the research basis and the marginalized women in the movies of Changping Imamura as the research object.The present form of marginal women in Imamura Changping films was shown through the study of different types of marginal female images,marginalization and the significance of feminist views.Chapter 1 is defining the concept of women and interprets the process of the development of the existing feminist theory.The second chapter is the life and film creation of Changping Imamura.It explores the creation process and position of Changping Imamura’s film to grasp the characteristics and foundation of his creation.The third chapter is the image and marginalization of women in the movies of Changping Imamura.Analyzing from the three aspects of the image type,marginalisation state and female view implied in the film,the director often expresses the primitive and hidden part of human nature with direct desire and sex,which reveals the strong vitality of marginal women and the good qualities in their personality.The fourth chapter is about the image expression of marginalized women in the movie of Changping Imamura.From the aspects of the presentation of marginal women in the stylized camera,the portrayal of females by sound elements,and the image expression of objects to women to explain the present form of marginal women in the language of camera.Chapter 5 is the significance of the marginalized woman construction in the film of Changping Imamura.This chapter focuses on analyzing the practical significance of the marginal female group in Imamura Changping’s films.Taking the study of specific meaning as the starting point,it expresses the real concern of Imamura Changping’s film.The director finally presented us with a feminist view with a sense of saving,that is,women’s leading and redeeming power for men and even the whole human society,which shows women’s reasonable appeal to get rid of the patriarchal ideology and seek self subjectivity.
