A Study Of Food Exploration In The Context Of Spatial Theory

In the spatial presentation of documentary films,architecture,food,dialects,and even the physical features of characters are important symbols of locality.The prominence and shaping of locality in documentary films have to a large extent summoned people’s recognition of space,answering the philosophical proposition of "Who am I?".With the rapid development of the documentary industry,the degree of subjective expression of images is further deepening.Image expression of various elements of documentary films has become a compulsory course for directors to create.Documentary space is favored due to its own advantages.In food documentaries,space includes not only the space existing in the physical world,but also the narrative and image space existing within the film and television works,as well as the meaning space formed after the documentary is broadcast.Food documentaries are deeply loved by audiences based on the high recognition of Chinese people for food culture.It is not only a simple way to show the audience the delicious food from various parts of the motherland,but also focuses on displaying the geographical history,dietary habits,and values of different regions through delicious food,displaying the living conditions and emotional stories of ordinary people.The thesis mainly analyzes how food documentaries design spatial images from both internal narrative and external audio-visual perspectives through comparative research methods,observational participation methods,and case studies,combined with the graduation work "The Space City",from four aspects: geographical space,narrative space,image space,and meaning production space.Although the geographical space of the subject "Space Kitchen" in the personal work "Space City" is specific,due to the director’s choice of perspective,the kitchen space is extended beyond the screen and integrated with the social environment,presenting objective and subjective intentions to the audience through spatial construction techniques,The fusion and echo of the city fireworks and the artistic characteristics of documentary creation in a specific space endows the documentary "Explore Space City" with a richer artistic imagination.
