A Survey Of Emergency Language Services In Guangxi Minority Areas

Language is the carrier of information,and emergency language services play an important role in handling public emergencies.The outburst epidemic situation has aroused the academic community’s extensive attention and in-depth thinking on emergency language services.However,emergency language services for ethnic minority areas need to be improved.As a typical ethnic area,a county in Baise City,Guangxi has experienced combating with the outburst epidemic situation in 2022.Focusing on the emergency language services during the epidemic period,this article takes a county in Guangxi as the survey site,and conducts the survey by questionnaire and interview.First,we investigated the use of language and characters in this county,and then investigated the emergency language services in this county during the epidemic from both the provider and receiver of emergency language services.The study shows that during the epidemic,the emergency language services in this county were rich in contents and various in ways.And this county already has a sense of using minority languages to provide services and provide verbal comfort.Relevant departments are timely in dealing with the issue of language civilization,and the public evaluation tends to be positive.Most services use Mandarin and Chinese characters,while Zhuang language and Zhuang characters are less.According to the survey results of language use,language attitudes and feelings of minority language services,the local public’s demand for bilingual emergency language services is large,but it has not been met.In addition,the emergency language services during the epidemic have not yet formed a collaborative system and lack targeted language service talents and products.In view of above problems,this paper put forward some suggestions on emergency language services in this county,hoping to help the development of emergency language services in ethnic minority areas in the future.
