Kazuo Ishiguro is a Japanese-British writer who specializes in memory. As an international writer,Kazuo Ishiguro is always concerned about people’s living conditions. After many years,Kazuo Ishiguro created Klara and the Sun,an artificial intelligence based on the cloning technology of Never Let Me Go,and once again focused on the transformation of human backward posthuman.Taking the above two works as the research object, this dissertation reveals the humanistic care in Kazuo Ishiguro’s novels through the analysis of the living condition of posthuman body and the action of pursuing love.As technology shapes new body forms,Ishiguro observes that posthumans, created by genetic modification, cloning and artificial intelligence, are entering and affecting human life.In the face of the posthuman can donate organs free of charge, replace human work and “continue”human existence, human beings put the body of the posthuman in a state of exploitation by reducing the material supply, restricting the living space in the space and instilling the consciousness of obedience in the spirit, etc,in order to ensure their dominance. In the face of human oppression and discipline, posthumans did not fight back with violence.Instead, they took the initiative to encourage human and non-human to care for each other through their own behaviors,or to convey love in constructing their own unique meaning by interacting with animals and scenery in nature.Ishiguro uses the posthuman body to express his concern about humanity alienated by technology. On the one hand, the technology-enabled human is in the center, but its body and soul become "weak",while the human like posthuman pursues its own unique soul under layers of shackles, revealing Ishiguro’s equal emphasis on body and soul.On the other hand, with the transformation of human body and the gradual "feelings" possessed by posthuman, the boundary of identity is gradually blurred, and the transformation of identity between human and posthumans makes the question of the nature of "human" get attention again. At the same time, eugenics, genetic modification and frequently updated artificial intelligence reflect the problem of social hierarchy and survival of the fittest. If left unchecked, human beings will be trapped in unfairness and vicious competition due to their limitations in economy, intelligence and social status. In the process of writing about posthuman body,Kazuo Ishiguro tries to express his expectation of love and belonging by constructing a "posthuman community" in which human and posthuman live in harmony. In his way of resolving conflicts with love,he also reveals his concern for the living conditions of human beings. |
