| This report is based on the author’s interpreting task of the “National Intensified Training and League of 2021 Yao Foundation Hope Primary School Basketball Season”.The training and league kicked off on December 14,2021,at Kunming Haigeng Sports Training Center, and the organizers invited Nenad Hrvoic, assistant instructor of the CBA Nanjing Tongxi Basketball Club,to conduct a two-day basketball training for rural students on December 14 and 15.The author was interviewed and recruited by the organizers for the interpreting task, which was split into five sections: airport pick-up,pre-training preparation, formal training, journalists’ interview, and glee feast. This report attempts to analyze the advantages, difficulties, and challenges encountered by the interpreters in this interpreting task with examples from the perspective of the Theory of Social Practice(field, habitus, and capital)proposed by Bourdieu.Bourdieu’s Theory of Social Practice was among a number of sociological theories and studies that attracted translation researchers’ attention in the late 1990 s.Field, habitus, and capital are the three divisions of the Theory of Social Practice.According to the theory, while reflecting in translation, translators maintain or strive for the power structure in the translation field(space)with their habitus(techniques)and various capital(resources).Through this interpreting task, the author has the following gains: in order to accomplish an outstanding interpretation in practice, one must have an excellent interpreter’s role definition in the field, cultivate excellent habitus, and attach importance to capital accumulation. The author’s interpreting practice proves that Bourdieu’s Theory of Social Practice can provide practical guidance in interpreting tasks. The author hopes this report may provide a reference for the study of sports interpretation, the Theory of Social Practice, and the sociology of translation. |
