The Effect Of Nonsocial Pattern Deviancy Aversion On Homosexual Prejudice Among College Students

Nonsocial pattern deviancy aversion refers to the activation of negative affect in the perception of broken,disturbed,or distorted patterns.Relevant foreign studies have shown that there is a correlation between nonsocial pattern deviancy aversion and social deviancy aversion.Social deviancy refers to those statistical minorities,such as stigmatized individuals,social norm-breakers,negative and positive statistically abnormal people(e.g.,someone very poor,someone very rich),and racial minority group-members.Previous studies have used social deviancy,i.e.,statistical minorities are black and disabled,and no studies have been done on homosexuals as a sexual minority.Therefore,it is necessary to explore the relationship between nonsocial pattern deviancy aversion and prejudice against homosexuality.This has helped to address the physical and mental health problems of the homosexual community in our country as a result of prejudice.Based on this,this study designed three experiments based on the research of Gollwitzer et al.Experiment 1 examines the correlation between college students’ aversion to nonsocial pattern deviancy and their social deviancy aversion in Chinese culture.Experiment 2 examines the causal relationship between college students’ nonsocial pattern deviancy aversion and their prejudice against homosexual groups,and the mediating role of social deviancy aversion in it.Experiment 3 examines the dependence of group size,that is,when homosexuality is a minority in the group,nonsocial pattern deviancy aversion can predict individual prejudice against homosexuality;And when homosexuality is the majority in the group,nonsocial pattern deviancy aversion no longer predicts individual prejudice against homosexuality.In this study,the following conclusions were obtained by literature analysis,questionnaire survey and experiment:(1)There is a correlation between college students’ nonsocial pattern deviancy aversion and their social deviancy aversion.(2)There is a causal relationship between college students’ nonsocial pattern deviancy aversion and their prejudice against homosexuality.Prejudice against the homosexual community can be predicted by their aversion to nonsocial pattern deviancy.And this prediction is mediated by the social deviancy aversion of college students,that is,the aversion to statistical minorities.(3)Nonsocial pattern deviancy aversion positively affects homosexual prejudice when homosexuality is presented as a minority,while nonsocial pattern deviancy aversion has no significant effect on homosexual prejudice when homosexuality is presented as a majority.
