The Late Ming and early Qing Dynasty is a period of unprecedented prosperity, with rapid social and economic development, the germination of capitalism in the south of the Yangtze River, and people’s thoughts and ideas have entered a period of rapid change and development; At the same time, the Late Ming and early Qing Dynasty was also a turbulent period, with corrupt politics, rulers greedy for pleasure, fatuous and incompetent, eunuchs controlling the government, and scholars’ political ideals on the verge of collapse. The prosperity of economy, the abundance of materials, the difficulties of the current situation, together with the influence of Wang Yangming’s Philosophical and social atmosphere, made great changes in the minds of the scholars in the Late Ming and early Qing Dynasty. They began to turn their life ideal from "governing the world" to the realization of their own life will.Compared with the previous people, the scholars of the Late Ming and early Qing Dynasty more complied with the expansion of their inner desires. They paid more attention to the taste of life, sought sensory satisfaction and pursued poetic life.Scholars will also project their aesthetic will to all aspects of life, making daily life more and more aesthetic. All these changes made the aesthetics of life in the Late Ming and early Qing Dynasty present a new atmosphere.Firstly, the aesthetic objects of scholars in the Late Ming and early Qing Dynasty increased and the aesthetic scope expanded.Their appreciation is not only focused on works of art,but also extended to every detail of daily life, such as clothing, food, housing, transportation and so on.Secondly, the aesthetic place of scholars in the Late Ming and early Qing Dynasty expanded, brought daily life into the aesthetic place, and realized and pursued beauty all the time in their daily life.As one of the most representative scholars in the Late Ming and early Qing Dynasty,Li Yu introduced his own aesthetic practice of life in detail in his book Xian qing ou ji.Although Li Yu’s concept of life aesthetics has its uniqueness,on the whole,it is the epitome of the life aesthetics of scholars at that time.Through the analysis and study of Li Yu’s life aesthetics practice,we can summarize several concepts of scholars’ life aesthetics in the Late Ming and early Qing Dynasty.Among them, the two concepts of “Shun tian er xing” and “Miao xiao zi ran” are the development of the natural concept of "Tian ren he yi" in ancient China, and “Yi wu shuo li” is the inheritance of the viewpoint of agency in Song Dynasty;“Feng jian he yi”and”Wu gui shi yong” are derived from the way of making the best use of things in ancient times. The new trend of life aesthetics in the Late Ming and early Qing Dynasty still included “Yi ya hua su”,”Shang qi qiu xin” and“Zhong she xing le” were the result of the secularization of scholars’ life aesthetics in the Late Ming and early Qing Dynasty, while novelty and luxury were caused by the awakening of selfconsciousness. The life aesthetics of scholars in the Late Ming and early Qing Dynasty is actually their thinking on the meaning of life. They use the aesthetic state of mind and practice to resolve their inner confusion,so as to achieve harmony between body and mind. They find the method of settling down in daily life. They are not only in harmony with nature, but also the means to show their unique will all the time.In modern times, they still have profound significance, which is worthy of our reference and learning.
