| Dong Hongyou,a children’s literature writer from Hubei,began his literary work in1982 and is the author of several full-length novels,including "Fat Uncle","The Forest at Fourteen","Young Boys and Girls March","One Hundred Chinese Children’s Dreams","Tiger Saeko" and "Mountain Ghost",as well as four volumes of novels,including "Quiet by the Lake","Fairy Tales of the Yangtze River" and "The Collected Works of Dong Hongyou",and several other collections of essays,poems and full-length reportage.He also has several other collections of essays,poems and long reports.After its publication in Taiwan,his masterpiece,One Hundred Chinese Children’s Dreams,achieved many successes and was awarded not only the "Top Ten Books",but also the "Golden Dragon Award for Good Books".-It was translated and introduced to Japan,the United States and many other countries.His full-length novel The Forest at Fourteen was also published in Chinese Taiwan and Japan.Dong Hongyou’s children’s novels are rich in content,relying on rich imagery and real-life experiences to show the growth of children in a particular historical period and region,as well as the unique natural and social landscape of the Jingchu region.This is an important way of understanding Dong Hongyou’s children’s novels by combing through his entire oeuvre and interpreting his novels from the perspective of regional and cultural writing.This study is based on an overview of Dong Hongyou’s children’s novels as a whole,and explores the parts of his novels that are written in regional culture,in an attempt to explore the complementary relationship between Dong Hongyou’s children’s novels and the writing of regional culture.Chapter 1 is an introductory chapter that summarises the purpose and significance of Dong Hongyou’s novels,reviews the current state of research at home and abroad,and clarifies the concepts of ’regional culture’ and ’region’.The second chapter illustrates the textual presentation of regional culture in Dong Hongyou’s children’s novels.The first chapter uses ’mountains and forests’ and ’waters’ as a basis to illustrate Dong Hongyou’s own ties to the region,selecting the most characteristic forest culture and witch and ghost culture of Jingchu for study and analysis.The third chapter analyses the narrative techniques used in Dong Hongyou’s fictional writing about the region,starting with the richness and diversity of the narrative genres,including a focus on children’s development,a unique understanding of folklore,and a concern for current ecology.Secondly,the local narrative language,made up of dialectal colloquialisms and folk songs,is also a feature of the novel.Chapter 4 shows the uniqueness of Dong Hongyou’s children’s novels through a comparison of the regional writing of children’s literature in Hubei,thus highlighting the unique significance and value of Dong Hongyou’s fiction. |
