Study On The Application Characteristics Of New Timbre In Three Chamber Music Pieces By Chen Qigang

Chen Qigang is an internationally renowned French-Chinese composer who combines his profound Chinese cultural heritage with sophisticated Western compositional techniques in his music.These three works reflect Chen Qigang’s successful exploration of tonal composition and have since attracted the attention of the Western music world.This paper examines the new timbral characteristics and cultural connotations of the three chamber works,focusing on the innovative timbral weaving,structural connotations and orchestration of the new timbres,and in particular the influence of the works from this period on the style of Chen Qigang’s chamber music and other compositional genres.The focus of this thesis is on the study of orchestral technique as a basic starting point,and on the general characteristics of its orchestration.The study is divided into six parts,of which the first part introduces the composer’s upbringing,his creative stages,and briefly describes the background to the writing of Memories,Dream Journey and Tao Emotion Ⅱ.The second part analyses the characteristic pitch material and the use of compositional techniques in the three chamber music pieces.Focusing on the third and fourth sections,this paper conducts an empirical study in the third section of chamber music orchestration,analysing the instrumentation and acoustic sound sources of the work.The fourth section explores in detail the vertical concept of interlocking timbral weaves and the horizontal forms of spreading diffusion between acoustic bodies.The fifth section analyses the structural features and orchestral layout of the work under a macroscopic perspective.Finally,a summary is given of the evolution and formation of Chen Qigang’s compositional style during this period.
