In this paper, from the perspective of gender archaeology, burials with gender-age identification from the lower Xiajiadian culture are studied, and statistical analysis is conducted on the burials of Dadianzi,Jielihua,Tuchengzi,Liunan,Fengxia, and Xidachuan. The social status and division of labor between the two sexes in the early and late periods were discussed, and the characteristics of female and male burials of different levels of adulthood and immaturity in six aspects of burial form and structure, grave orientation, burial style, burial tools, burial goods, and sati were statistically analyzed and summarized respectively.Overall, the social status of males is higher than that of females, and that of adults is higher than that of minors. This paper argues that facing is an important marker to distinguish men and women, with women facing east and men facing west,as a condition to make preliminary gender judgments on burials without gender identification. In terms of niches, burial tools, pottery, and the presence or absence of painted pottery, both sexes reflect similar prevalence trends, with males possessing slightly higher numbers than females.Weapons were only found in male burials, indicating that activities such as warfare and hunting were undertaken by men;women undertook textile-type labor and men undertook manual labor;the head of the staff, which symbolizes status rank, was only found in adult male burials, and the phenomenon of dog slaughter was absolutely dominant in adult male burials, which may be related to the male social division of labor;grinders, grinding stones, and painted tools were only found in adult female burials, indicating that women may have been engaged in related work.In addition to the same orientation as adult burials, the number of niches, burial tools and funerary objects in minor burials is less than that in adult burials. It is noteworthy that the number of painted pottery buried with minor females is dominant compared to that of minor males. In terms of the relationship between the age of the burial owner and the rank of the burial, there is a relationship between the rank of the burial and the age,but there are a few exceptions. |
