| Risk-taking behavior is the behavior that people choose to ignore the harm of things and continue to carry out.Studies have shown that both positive risk taking and negative risk taking are harmful to the physical and mental health of individuals. As a negative emotion, boredom can affect the physical and mental health of individuals and even induce deviant behaviors. When individuals are exposed to boredom for a long time,do they seek stimulation or risk to break the boredom? This study aims to deeply explore the relationship and mechanism between them, which has certain positive significance for reducing and intervening people’s risk-taking behavior, exploring reasonable ways to alleviate state boredom, improving people’s physical and mental health and maintaining social harmony and stability. This study included three parts. In study 1,an experiment was conducted with 70 college students. The pointer rotation task was used to induce the state boredom of the subjects, and the balloon analogue risk task was used to measure the risk-taking behavior to explore the effect of state boredom on risk-taking behavior.Study 2explored the mechanism of state boredom affecting risk-taking behavior. The Brief Sensation Seeking Scale was used to measure the level of sensation seeking of 94 college students, and the mediating effect of sensation seeking between state boredom and risk-taking behavior was investigated by using the same method as in study 1.In Study 3,300 college students were asked to fill in the Social Support Rating Scale, and 132 subjects were selected and divided into groups according to the scores of the scale. Then, the experiment was carried out in the same way as in study 2 to comprehensively explore the relationship and mechanism between state boredom, sensation seeking, social support and risk-taking behavior.A moderated mediation model was constructed, and the combined effects of psychological factors(state boredom),personality factors(sensation seeking)and social factors(social support)on risk-taking behaviors were explored. It has certain enlightening significance for individuals to deal with state boredom and reduce risk-taking behaviors. The results are as follows:(1)State boredom has a significant positive correlation with risk-taking behavior, and the correlation coefficient was 0.319(p < 0.01).(2)State boredom can positively predict risk-taking behavior, and individuals with higher state boredom have higher risk taking(p < 0.01).(3)Sensation seeking plays a partial mediating role in the effect of state boredom on risk-taking behavior, with a mediating effect value of 0.17 and a mediating effect size of 0.24.(4)The main effects of state boredom and social support on risk-taking behaviors were both significant(p < 0.001,p < 0.05),and the interaction between them was not significant(p > 0.05).(5)Social support moderated the mediating pathway of sensation seeking between state boredom and risk-taking behaviors.Under high social support, sensation seeking did not significantly predict risk-taking behaviors(p > 0.05);Under low social support, sensation seeking significantly predicted risk-taking behaviors(p< 0.001).Conclusions:(1)State boredom significantly affected risk-taking behavior.Individual risk-taking was significantly higher in the high-state boredom group than in the low-state boredom group, that is,the state boredom level would enhance the individual risk-taking degree.(2)Sensation seeking partially mediated the relationship between state boredom and risk-taking behaviors.High state boredom can affect the level of individual sensation seeking, thereby enhancing risk-taking behavior.(3)Social support moderated the mediating pathway(the second half)of sensation seeking between state boredom and risk-taking behaviors.High social support can buffer the effect of sensation seeking on risk-taking behavior and reduce the degree of risk-taking.In practice, people’s risk-taking behaviors can be prevented and intervened by reducing the level of sensation seeking and adjusting the degree of social support. |
