Mao Zedong delivered a speech entitled "On Protracted War" in May and June 1938,expounding the basic views of the Chinese Communist Party on many issues in the War of Resistance against Japan.This article can be divided into seven parts in structure according to the analysis and answer to different questions about this war.Its main contents include clarifying that this war is a protracted war and refuting the "the theory of national subjugation" and "the theory of quick victory",rationally envisioning the three stages of this war,clarifying the lofty mission and two different purposes of this war,encouraging the military and civilians across the country to give full play to "conscious initiative".Through analysis,it can be found that Mao Zedong used Marxist epistemology and materialist dialectics when answering relevant questions.The main theoretical sources of these two ideas are On Practice and On Contradiction.Mao Zedong used the philosophical thoughts he systematically discussed in these two works to analyze this war and created On Protracted War.Therefore,the Marxist epistemological thought and materialist dialectics thought in this work are reflected through his relevant analysis of this war.Mao Zedong’s solution to problems such as how to understand the War of Resistance against Japan reflects Marxist epistemological ideas such as how to understand people’s understanding on social practice,the dialectical development law of human cognition process,and the theory of "conscious initiative".The answer to questions such as how to carry out the War of Resistance against Japan reflects Marxist dialectical thoughts such as the principle of particularity of contradictions,the relationship between fundamental and non-fundamental contradictions,the mutual transformation of the main and non-main aspects of contradictions of contradictions,the dialectical relationship between internal and external causes,and the main aspects of major contradictions determine the nature of things.Philosophical thoughts in On Protracted War have extraordinary historical significance and contemporary values.In terms of historical significance,this philosophical thought guided the Chinese military and civilians to win the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression,a national revolution,and prepared for the Communist Party of China to win the new democratic revolution and the establishment of a new China.Moreover,Philosophical thoughts in On Protracted War was the using and development of Mao Zedong’s philosophical thought in that war.It also provided an example for using philosophical thinking to analyse and solve practical problems.As far as contemporary values are concerned,the value of philosophical thought in On Protracted War has been renewed for a long time,which plays an important role in analyzing and dealing with various problems arising in the current new journey of building a modern socialist country in all respects and realizing the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation with Chinese path to modernization. |
