The thesis would analyse the problem of other minds in Shakespeare’s Tempest using cognitive science terms such as Dreyfus’ phenomenology cognitive thoughts,Anil Seth’s predictive pattern, and Rizzolatti’s mirror neuron and place. However, this thesis focuses mostly on Prospero’s mindreading, since Prospero’s mastery over the whole situation is the play’s major thread.Prospero first makes judgement about others and provides instruction.Mindreading by Prospero might be categorised as near-distance mindreading,moderate-distance mindreading and far-distance mindreading. The first chapter examines Prospero’s near-distance mindreading.Witnessing the anguish of Alonso’s group,Miranda and Ariel are able to imagine their suffering.Due to his interactions with Miranda and Ariel,Prospero is able to enhance his predictive pattern in order to control his fury and interact rationally with his former foes.In the meanwhile,Prospero uses memory to convince Miranda and Ariel.Under the standpoint of intentionality,Prospero uses memory to extend the duration of his wrath and emphasises historical context to help Miranda comprehend why he summons the storm.Prospero uses implicit memory to divert Ariel’s attention to the past when Ariel demands his or her freedom so that Ariel may continue to serve the plan. The second chapter examines Propsero’s moderate-distance mindreading.Prospero allowed Miranda and Ferdinand to fall in love by creating the place with Ariel’s music.Their marriage strikes a balance between politics and romantic love and creates the perfect monarch via political strategy and moderation.Faced with the insurrection of force by Ferdinand,Caliban, and Antonio, respectively,Prospero responds cautiously, demonstrating the mastery of his administration skills. This is consistent with the evolution of artificial intelligence computing from rule-based to statistics-based.First,Prospero is preoccupied with magic and neglects political affairs, culminating in his powerlessness during meditation. After arriving on the island,Prospero learned how to wield magic in precise scenarios in order to bring about the dynastic marriage, retake power, and quell the revolt. The third chapter examines Prospero’s far-distance mindreading.Prospero achieves telepathy by magic;while,he cannot experience other minds,he can comprehend them. The drama text is pertinent to magic records. The source of magic in the play is Ariel and Prospero’s book.As the ship communicates between the new world and the old world,so does Prospero’s book communicate between the real world and the supernatural realm. The book and the ship are the conduits for the transformation of possible world.Prospero could comprehend other minds and exert control from a distance.Prospero has a real-time connection with Caliban’s triad and Alonso’s group, who are dispersed in various areas of the island,in order to deal with different parties in order to abandon magic and return to the secular world of Milan. The Tempest is one of Shakespeare’s later works with nearly perfect creative technique and language. In Shakespeare’s day, however, science and technology are far from being mature.Consequently, the Renaissance contemporary believes in witchcraft and theurgical art.Magic in the play echoes cognitive science today.Even though Prospero uses magic,he need first comprehend other minds.By reading other minds,Prospero abandons magic and returns home.Obviously, comprehending Shakespeare’s plays requires determining what Shakespeare intended to communicate. But,each time one reads Shakespeare’s plays, fresh insights might be gained.Using current concepts to comprehend Shakespeare is not only acceptable but also a fact. The thesis has analysed Shakespeare’s plays from a contemporary viewpoint. To analyse Shakespeare’s plays in modern perspective is what the thesis has done.
