Game Magazine,a modern popular literature magazine,was founded on November30,1913,with the editorial team of Wang Dungen and Chen Diexian.It was printed by the Chinese Library and finally published in 1917,with a total of 19 issues.As a pioneer of modern game magazines,Game Magazine,with its "pan-game" view of games and its aim of "to awaken the world through the irony of the simple",displayed and published many amusement activities and game articles in various forms and contents.The series of literary practices of Game Magazine conformed to and promoted the trend of game culture in the literary field in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republican period,and was a typical representative of the continuous development of the "game" discourse in the complex social space of the early Republican period,which released the charm of literature and stimulated cultural vitality.In addition to leaving a colorful mark in the development of game magazines,"Game Magazine",with its pioneering position and distinctive "game" style,influenced the establishment of game popular literature publications in the future,and even opened up a "winding path to the mysterious" for the further development of game literature in the future.The thesis is divided into four parts.The first part,the introductory part,focuses on the origin of the concept of "game" and its new changes in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republican period.In fact,"game" has always been an important factor in traditional Chinese culture and literature.In the late Qing Dynasty and early Republican period,articles with comical,witty and game meanings were popular for a while,and they were published in the relevant sections of various literary newspapers and literary supplements.Influenced by the background of the times and social transformation,coupled with the introduction of the Western theory of "game" without merit,"freedom of speech" through "game" and thus the realization of "Spiritual freedom" became one of the important meanings of "games" in this era.Following the "pan-game theory",Game Magazine greatly expanded the scope of game literature and game culture,enriched the expression forms and discourse resources of "game",and became a representative literary publication for constructing the discourse of "game" in the early years of the Republic of China.It has become a representative literary publication in the early Republic of China for constructing the discourse of "games".The second part,the first chapter,mainly takes the daily activities and entertainment methods of the public and literati groups in the Game Magazine as a cutoff point,and classifies and summarizes many different kinds of entertainment and leisure games.The specific forms of expression category,which is closely related to the daily life of the literati.The rich and diverse recreational activities and articles on amusement carry the most primitive form of "games" and the most basic emotion-"laughter",which leads to entertainment and leisure.The third part,the second chapter,through a detailed analysis of the artistic techniques and rhetorical skills of the new category of "games" slowly constructed under the game concept of "Game Magazine"-Game-like "imitation" and "simulation",miscellaneous and polyphonic under collage,the irony of similitude,to show how the "textual games" formed by the richness and variety of genres,the intermingling of language,the variety of subjects,and the complex contradictions of ideas The "textual games" provide a rich and unique discursive resource for modern Chinese literature.At the same time,on this basis,it further reveals the essential purpose of "Game Magazine" to correct the deviations of the times and perform waking up in the dislocation and deconstruction under the cloak of "game".The fourth part,the third chapter,firstly,further analyzes the "games" that lead to entertainment and leisure and the "games" that aim to awaken the world and realize the people,clarifies their inner meaning,and explores the relationship between "entertainment" and "criticism".The analysis reveals the contradiction and ambiguity between "entertainment" and "criticism" on the surface and the unity and inevitability on the essence,and reveals the root of the pluralistic discourse of "game" in the "Game Magazine" issued in the early years of the Republic of China,a period of social transformation.Secondly,we analyze and summarize the influence of Game Magazine in the popular literature of games and its contribution to the construction of "game" discourse in the history of modern literature with its rich and diversified view of games,its generalized game theory,and its purpose of "hoping to wake up the world by means of simple irony",and the influence it had on the popular literature of games,as well as its contribution to the construction of the "games" discourse in modern literary history.Finally,the articles on scolding and weeping in Game Magazine are examined,and the real emotions of the literati group are hidden in scolding poems and a series of sorrowful,sad,and tragic novels,emitting another kind of "murmur" that is very different from both entertainment and criticism.In the concluding part,by comparing the development of game literature in the late Qing and Republican periods into modern humorous and satirical literature and the part that is overly comical and even greasy,the vitality of game literature is once again emphasized in its topicality and realism.
