| The General Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the General Office of the State Council released Opinions on Further Reducing the Homework Burden of Compulsory Education Students and the Burden of Off-campus Training and Notice of the General Office of the Ministry of Education on Strengthening the Homework Management in Compulsory Education Schools in 2021.The documents emphasized that homework was an important part of school education and teaching management,a necessary supplement to classroom teaching activities,and a necessary link in the teaching process for teachers.It should be an auxiliary means to cultivate and develop students’ abilities rather than a source of pressure and burden.Based on this,Chongqing Municipal Education Commission and Chongqing Academy of Education Science also issued relevant documents,pointing out that English homework is not only an integral part of teachers’ teaching work,but also an important means for teachers to optimize teaching strategies and check for omissions.In the context of the new curriculum reform,with the promulgation of the latest version of the compulsory education curriculum standards,homework’s design and implementation,as an important component of the curriculum content,directly affect the achievement of curriculum goals,the realization of educational purposes,and the comprehensive development of students.Homework is not only a reproduction of teaching content but also an extension of teaching.It should be an important educational platform to cultivate students’ self-discipline,independence,and self-learning ability.Therefore,under the background of the national "double reduction" policy,it is necessary to design English homework based on the requirements of the new compulsory education curriculum standards according to different thematic context and units to improve students’ core competencies.Combining domestic and foreign literature,the author has carried out an applied research on the assignment design in a unit of junior high school English under the thematic context,based on the theory of constructivism and zone of proximal development.This study aims to answer the following three questions: 1.Does the assignment of the unit under the thematic context help to stimulate students’ interests in learning? 2.To what extent does the assignment of the unit under the thematic context help to improve students’ English learning performances? 3.To what extent does the assignment of the unit under the thematic context help to improve the English learning cooperation ability?Firstly,this article used questionnaire survey and interview methods to investigate the current implementation status of junior high school English homework from five dimensions: homework attitude,homework amount,homework content and type,homework function,and homework evaluation,taking junior high school students from a key school in Chongqing as research objects.Secondly,based on literature research and investigation,the author designed the assignment of the unit under the thematic context in junior high school English and conducted applied research.After detailed questionnaire survey,interview,and applied research,the study found the following: First,the assignment of the unit under the thematic context helps to stimulate students’ interests in learning.Second,the assignment of the unit under the thematic context helps to improve students’ learning performances effectively.Third,the assignment of the unit under the thematic context is helpful for improving students’ English learning cooperation ability.Based on this,this study also proposed the following suggestions for the assignment of the unit under the thematic context in junior high school English.Firstly,the assignment of the unit should be a combination of online and offline.With the advantages of both online and offline platforms,suitable platforms should be selected according to different types of homework.We should not simply replace offline with online or cling to offline and abandon online.Secondly,we should establish a complete model of "design-implementation-evaluation" for the assignment of the unit.Teachers should design and assign homework according to students’ needs,evaluate the effectiveness of homework,and improve the quality of homework continuously. |
