A Study On The Interpretation Of Temperature-Sensitive Words In Modern Chinese Based On Generative Lexicon Theory

Interpretation is the core and soul of a dictionary.The quality of a dictionary depends largely on the quality of interpretation.Temperature-sensitive words are an important part of the Chinese vocabulary system with strong systematicness and rich word groups.Exploring the interpretation theory of temperature-sensitive words and combining it with dictionary compilation are of great significance to improve the interpretation quality of temperature-sensitive words,and it can help language learners master temperature-sensitive words easier.At the same time,the interpretation of traditional dictionaries has not really got rid of the influence of ancient dictionaries,and the proportion of words interpreted by words is still large,while the descriptive discourse interpretation lacks theoretical support.The theory of traditional dictionary interpretation is insufficient and the interpretation system is broken.Therefore,it is necessary to explore the method of dividing and describing the meaning items based on generative lexicon theory and corpus,and propose an suitable interpretation framework for modern lexicography.Based on the Modern Chinese Classification Dictionary,Synonyms Dictionary and Modern Chinese Frequency Dictionary,this paper selects 10temperature-sensitive words "hot,scald,scorching,lukewarm,warm,cool,cold,ice,freeze,chilly" as the research objects.On the basis of corpus analysis,this paper takes Modern Chinese Dictionary as the blueprint,and takes Modern Chinese Normative Dictionary,Modern Chinese Learning Dictionary,Concise Oxford English Dictionary,Collins COBUILD Advanced Learner’s Dictionary,Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English as the reference dictionaries.It also uses argument structure and qualia structure to describe the distribution of the meaning items of temperature-sensitive words in modern Chinese,which improves the accuracy and systematicness of the description of the meaning items of temperature-sensitive words.This paper is divided into three parts.The first part is the introduction,which first introduces the basis of the topic selection,the selection principles of the research objects and reference dictionaries,then review relevant research and the trend of the interpretation of temperature-sensitive words in English and Chinese dictionaries,and finally points out the theoretical basis,research methods and corpus sources.The second part is the main part of the article,which consists of four chapters.The first chapter generally introduces the method of describing the semantic items of temperature-sensitive words,which is divided into three steps: 1.Establish a single word balanced corpus.This paper mainly introduces the methods of corpus extraction,corpus establishment and corpus annotation;2.Establish argument roles and qualia roles.There are three types of arguments involved: core arguments,default arguments,and modification arguments,as well as six types of qualia roles: formal roles,constitutive roles,performative roles,functional roles,evaluation roles and behavioral roles.3.Select the argument role and the qualia role to enter the interpretation.The sense of temperature-sensitive words are complex,including verb meaning,noun meaning,adjective meaning and morpheme meaning.Different types of meaning items have different ways of interpretation.So different argument and qualia roles are selected.From Chapter 2 to Chapter 4,according to the description method of temperature-sensitive words introduced in Chapter 1,on the basis of Modern Chinese Dictionary and referring to the division and description of meaning items in other dictionaries,the interpretation of three temperature-sensitive words(hot,scald,scorching)in the high-temperature semantic field of modern Chinese,three temperature-sensitive words(lukewarm,warm,cool)in the transitional semantic field,and four temperature-sensitive words(cold,ice,freeze,chilly)in the low-temperature semantic field are optimized,and 38 meanings are added.Among them,the high-temperature semantic field added 9 items,and the transitional semantic field added10 items.The low-temperature semantic field added 19 items.The conclusion part summarizes the role of generative lexicon theory in the interpretation of temperature-sensitive words: it improves the operability of meaning division and the scientific nature of meaning description,and it lays a semantic foundation for the conversion of part of speech of temperature-sensitive words.In addition,it also points out the shortcomings of the research and the space for further research.
