Left wing literature is an important part of British literature and is deeply influenced by Marxist thought. The interpretation of the ideological connotation and artistic characteristics of British left-wing literature in the 20 th century can guide us to better know and understand the life, emotion and spirit of the British working class and common people in the 20 th century. This translation practical report is based on Committed Styles: Modernism,Politics, and Left-Wing Literature in the 1930 s and the Chapter 3 is chosen as the translation material. In this chapter, the author focuses on the works of British surrealist writers and discusses the relationship between Surrealism and Left-Wing Literature.Since its publication,it has been highly praised by many foreign writers. The translator believes that it is of great practical value to choose this work as the material for translation practice.Being rich in long and difficult sentences is the prominent feature of the text. These long and difficult sentences have complex sentence patterns and contain rich cultural connotation and background knowledge.Due to the differences between Chinese and English languages and cultures, reproducing the cultural connotation of the text on the basis of being faithful to the original text is the focus and difficulty of this translation practice. Therefore, the translator chooses the translator’s subjectivity theory, completing the report from four aspects: the overview of translation practice, the description of translation process, the analysis of translation cases and the summary of translation practice. The core part of this report is chapter three.Starting from the cultural differences between Chinese and English, the translator analyzes and deals with several cases in lexical and syntactic aspects,by using a variety of translation methods. For example,in order to supplement the differences between Chinese and English languages and cultures, the translator uses footnote and annotation. In addition,to modify the translation cavity, the translator uses voice conversion, word order conversion and so on.Finally,on the basis of faithfulness, the translator gives full play to the translator’s subjective initiative and obtains a reasonable translation. The significance of this translation practice is mainly reflected in the following two aspects. For one thing,it introduces the development of literature in the 1930 s in Britain, and provides ways for Chinese readers to understand relevant knowledge. For another, from the perspective of translator’s subjectivity,a variety of translation methods are used in this translation practice report flexibly to explore cases in lexical and syntactic aspects, which can provide some reference for the translation of this kind.
