Judging from the existing research results, few people have conducted special research on university novels during the War of Resistance Against Japan. Most researchers incorporate it into the overall context of 1930 s and 1940 s or modern literature,or conduct in-depth research on individual works.Throughout the creation process of the century-old university novel, the university novel during the War of Resistance Against Japan is a crucial part of it,which fades the previous immaturity and plays an exemplary role in the subsequent writing of university novels, with the merit of inheriting the previous and starting the next.At the same time, the special historical context brings creators a new life experience. Therefore, the study of university novels during the War of Resistance Against Japan is of great value for grasping the overall development of university novels and examining the living conditions and spiritual outlook of wartime intellectuals. In addition to the introduction and conclusion, the main part of the paper has four chapters. The first chapter examines the historical context of university novels and the characteristics of creative subjects during the War of Resistance Against Japan.Due to differences in ruling power, the country was divided into three regions. The Kuomintang-ruled area brought together most of the universities and intellectuals of the time, and Chongqing,as one of the cultural centers, was quite active in literary creation.Shanghai’s literary creation during the period of isolation was relatively active.Due to the influence of the authorities’ policy of cultural control, the occupied areas can only seek opportunities to speak out in confinement. The occupied areas, under the influence of the authorities’ policy of cultural domination, could only seek freedom in absolutism.Writers in the anti-Japanese base areas behind enemy lines consciously accepted the guidance of the Communist Party’s literary and artistic policy, and intellectual-themed novels were gradually marginalized. In addition to the influence and constraints of objective conditions, the authors’ college experience, intellectual identity, and wartime life experience also affected their writing and imagination of the university. The second chapter focuses on the campus cultural ecology and intellectual imagery in university novels during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.According to the overall appearance of the university campus,it is divided into negative and positive states.According to the choice of university intellectuals in the situation of resisting the war and saving the Chinese,it is roughly divided into four types of images: resisters, adherents, speculators, and wanderers. The third chapter explores the artistic techniques of the university novel during the War of Resistance. In the era of the national War of Resistance, the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the salvation of the country were the most important themes, and literary and artistic creations often took the initiative to serve the needs of the War of Resistance.During this period, the masses showed unprecedented strength, and shaping the portraits of the characters became the conscious choice of most writers. At the same time, the writers focused more on creating negative images that hindered the war of resistance. The combination of internal and external perspectives and euphemistic and long-winded irony are common techniques used by writers. The fourth chapter analyzes the significance and limits of university novels during the War of Resistance Against Japan.During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, college novels made certain breakthroughs in quantity and quality, gradually matured, mainly reflected in the emergence of novels with high artistic achievements;university campuses no longer existed only as backgrounds, but became independent aesthetic objects;and the ideological and artistic achievements of "Siege of the City" and "Wei Yang Song" played a certain exemplary role in later university novels. In addition, the writer’s creation in wartime and the shaping of the image of university intellectuals are themselves the embodiment of the critical spirit and sense of responsibility of intellectuals. However, there are not many successful works in these novels, especially as many works are not mature and mellow in the use of satire.
