With the appearance of new devices and technology,the video games have been continuously developing in recent years.Mobile online games have gradually replaced traditional games and become an important way of entertainment.There are many types of mobile games on the market,one of which is open sandbox games.They are loved by players due to their high freedom and exploratory.Open sandbox games have a few differences from regular games.They allow the players to explore a wide world freely,and the games are mostly plotless and don’t limit the players to a single mission planned by the systems.The information systems are also richer than the average games.Open and free game mechanics make it difficult to control the players’ pace of play.Complex game systems increase cognitive resistance.These characteristics of open sandbox games can affect the emotional experience of the players.Therefore,how to improve players’ entertainment experience while retaining the characteristics of the games is a major problem that interaction design needs to solve.Flow is defined as the best state of emotional experience because it describes the players’ immediate psychological and feelings.This paper is based on the author’s practical project experience during her internship in the design group of Net Ease game "Eve of Evolution".The main content is about the immersive interaction design of open sandbox games.Based on flow theory,the author analyzes the relationship between flow design elements and interaction design of open sandbox games.As a result,the interaction design model of open sandbox games based on flow is constructed.It can guide the implementation of actual design projects.In the early stage of design,the author mined the design highlights of competitive products from the perspective of flow experience,explored the missing points of flow experience in Eve of Evolution by qualitative user research methods,and sorted out interactive design optimization strategies based on flow.On this basis,the author designs the information architecture,interaction flow and page information of the relevant system in the game,and expounds the complete design flow in detail.Before the development of the design scheme,the team organized expert evaluation,checked the user experience problems in the design scheme,and optimized the pages with usability problems.The interaction design of open sandbox games aims to make players feel the freedom of the games and immerse themselves in it,thus improving the user experience and user stickiness.The design can also provide reference for the game interaction design in enterprises.
