During the teaching period in the Philippines, the author found that there were obvious problems in Filipino Chinese learners when learning Mandarin stop and affricates, for example, they often confused the aspirated sound with the unaspirated sound.Sometimes influenced by their native language, they also pronounce voiceless stops and voiceless affricates in Mandarin into voiced sound. This article intends to investigate the characteristics of the stoppers and plugs of Filipino Mandarin Chinese through experimental phonetics research methods.Based on the experimental analysis of the parameters of VOT and GAP,the author will establish the acoustic pattern of Mandarin stops and affricate for Filipino Chinese Learners, compare and analyze the acoustic pattern of Mandarin stops and affricate between Chinese native speakers’ and Filipino Chinese Learners’,summarize the specific types of errors, explore the causes of errors, and then provide teaching suggestions for the acquisition of Chinese stops and affricate. This article is divided into five parts:The first part is an introduction, which mainly discusses the background and current situation of the research, the purpose and value of the selected topic, and the main theories and methods of the research. In addition, this article also introduces the consonant systems of Mandarin,Filipino(Tagalog)and English, and analyzes the similarities and differences of the 3 language consonant systemsThe second part is experimental design, which mainly introduces the purpose of the experiment, the pronunciation person, the basis for the design of the pronunciation vocabulary, and the parameter standards for corpus acquisition. The third part is experimental analysis which is divided into 3 sections:The first is the acoustic experiment of stops.Through experiments,we found that when Filipino Chinese learners learn Mandarin stops, the length of the aspirated sound is relatively short, the length of the unaspirated sound is relatively long, the difference between some aspirated stops and unaspirated stops is small, and this always make people feel confused in the sound;the excessively long period of GAP results in a pronounced sense of frustration in hearing. The second is the acoustic experiment of affricate.Similar to the problem of Mandarin stops, affricate also have problems, such as,the length of the aspirated sound is relatively short, the length of the unaspirated sound is relatively long, and the length of GAP is too long. The third is the analysis of acoustic patterns. On the basis of acoustic analysis,it establish the acoustic pattern of Filipino Chinese learners learning Mandarin stops and affricate which compared with the acoustic patterns of stops and affricate of Chinese native speakers, and summarize the main errors types of Filipino Chinese learners when they are learning Mandarin stops and affricate:1.the length of the aspirated sound is too short, the length of the unaspirated sound is relatively long;2.The pause between the previous and the last syllable in a two-syllable is too long which showing a obvious sense of frustration;3.The acoustic pattern of stops and affricate lacks an obvious group of sound aggregations bounded by aspirated sound and unaspirated sound. The fourth part is the analysis of the causes of errors and teaching suggestions, which combined with the acoustic experimental results of Filipino Chinese learners learning Mandarin stops and affricate. This part focuses on the analysis of the causes of errors from the two aspects of pronunciation parts and pronunciation methods, puts forward teaching suggestions. It is believed that the interference of the learner’s native language should be paid attention to in the teaching. It is not only necessary to strictly distinguish between saspirated sound and unaspirated sound, but also paying attention to the opposition between voice and voiceless. In addition,in teaching, attention should also be paid to the influence of factors such as tone on the pronunciation of the vowel of the syllable after the two syllables. The fifth part is the conclusion.Based on the summary of the results of the fulltext acoustic experiment,we explore the characteristics and bias reasons of Filipino Chinese learners learning Chinese stops and affricate, and look forward to the subsequent acoustic analysis and teaching design.
