A Study On Bergson’s Thought Of Duration

In the long course of human research,the study of “time” can be regarded as a unique benchmark,which is one of the criteria to test people’s understanding of the world.Philosophy has become the most systematic and thoughtful subject in many fields of study because of its lofty characteristics.Many great philosophers have elaborated on this issue.Among these theories,Bergson’s view of time plays an important role in the history of philosophy with its uniqueness.The rise of French criticism,the arrival of the big machine age and the development of modern biology opened the door for Bergson to think about time.Through the study and analysis of zeno’s paradox of time in ancient Greece,Augustine’s view of mind in time in the middle Ages and Descartes’ view of self in modern times,Bergson proposed his own views on time,life and freedom and established his own philosophy of continuity.The presupposition of Bergson’s continuous thought is to think about the time and space view which solidifies time,separates space and ossifies life.Based on the analysis of the existence field of duration,it can be found that duration is a “continuum of changing nature”,and duration is an “inseparable component unit” in space.By further analyzing the characteristics of stretching,that is,the inner diversity,the non-quantity of the state of consciousness,the memory of objects and the deep ego,we can recognize the real stretching.Finally,through the initial “intuition” method,the thought of continuous and space went through the “creation” of the core period and finally achieved the purpose of “freedom”.Bergson’s idea of Stretching breaks the solidification of traditional time view,reverses the space consciousness in stretching thought,inspires a new perspective of time,and stimulates intuition to re-examine the power of mind.However,Bergson’s concept of duration also has some disputes,such as the contention between point and line of duration and the contention between intuition and reason of time.Disputes promote the exchange and development of ideas.Bergson’s continuous thoughts become more perfect in the exchange,providing guidance for individuals to re-examine the nature of life and build a harmonious society.
