With the rapid development of globalization,the ability to communicate in English has become one of the most important skills in today’s society.English writing skills,as one of the important parts of English language skills,is the weak link in English learning of most junior high school students.There are many problems in junior middle school English writing,such as empty writing content,low writing quality,many grammatical errors,improper collocation and Chinglish.How to solve these problems has become an urgent problem in current English teaching and research.Previous studies focused on the causes of the above problems: mechanization of English learning,modeling of English teaching,lack of mother tongue environment in English education,etc.This study argues that developing students’ English chunk writing ability will help solve many problems in junior high school English writing,and it will help to improve English language ability,develop English thinking mode,and improve students’ English writing level.In recent years,many scholars in the field of language teaching have made a lot of research on English writing teaching and achieved fruitful research results.Among them,the research on the teaching method of English writing is particularly prominent.The teaching model of English writing in China can be divided into three categories: result-oriented teaching model,content-oriented teaching model and process-oriented teaching model.This paper reviews the relevant theories of English writing teaching and the relevant research on chunk teaching,including language input theory,constructivism theory,metacognitive theory,traditional models of writing teaching,relevant concepts and research status of chunk teaching at home and abroad.Chunk is the basic language unit of English,and also the basic and ideal unit of English learning.Chunk teaching is the key to improve learners’ language authenticity and fluency.It is a holistic teaching that integrates vocabulary teaching,grammar teaching,pragmatics teaching and discourse teaching,which can improve learners’ language ability in an all-round way.It is the hot spot and development trend of modern language teaching.This study adopts the educational action research method,and the research questions are as follows: 1.Is chunk teaching effective for improving the English writing ability of junior high school students? 2.What kind of chunk teaching mode is helpful to improve junior high school English writing ability? The whole action research lasted nearly three months,and the research objects were 52 students in a class of grade three in Jingzhou Experimental Middle School.The action research is divided into two rounds: the first round is to establish the awareness of language block,provide language chunk,use language block three-step teaching mode;On the basis of the first round of action research,the second round changed to the five-step teaching mode of establishing the awareness of language chunks,providing language chunks,explaining language chunks,remembering language chunks and using language chunks.In addition to action research,this study incorporates reflective research.Reflective research is a summary and reflection on two rounds of action research.This study finds that: 1.The average score of students’ writing has been increased by 1.67 points,and the improvement effect is obvious.Second,students’ writing confidence and sense of language chunk writing have been greatly improved,and their writing is more convenient.Thirdly,the number of chunks in students’ writing increased in the second test,but decreased in the third test.According to the author’s interview with students’ familiarity with writing topics,students believed that familiar writing topics made them more able to express their ideas,so they wrote more chunks.The main conclusions of this study are as follows:1.Through action research,chunk teaching is helpful to improve junior high school students’ English writing ability.2.Put forward the chunk teaching mode of junior middle school English writing teaching: establish the chunk consciousness,provide the chunk,explain the chunk,remember the chunk,use the chunk.The innovation of this study is to construct a writing teaching model suitable for junior high school students.The five-step chunk teaching model in this study has been popular for many years.Drawing on these ideas,this study constructs a writing teaching model suitable for junior middle school students in our country,and realizes self-innovation.The writing teaching mode of chunk teaching adopted in this paper plays a certain inspiring role in junior high school writing activities,and it is hoped that block teaching can be promoted in more schools. |
