A Study On Phonology Of Jiang Ling Dialect In Hubei Province

Jiangling County is located on the north bank of the Yangtze River,west of the Jianghan Plain and south-central of Hubei Province,and belongs to Jingzhou City.The Atlas of Chinese Languages classifies the Jiangling dialect as Chengyu part of the Southwest Mandarin.while Li Lan’s Subdivision of the Southwest Mandarin considers the Jiangling dialect as part of the small piece of Central Hubei of Huguang section.Wang Qunsheng and Wang Caiyu’s Study of the Jingzhou Dialect considers the Jiangling dialect as part of Wutian piece of Southwest Mandarin.The paper takes the phonological system of the Jiangling dialect as the object of study,through field surveys and literature collection,a comprehensive and systematic investigation of the phonological system of the Jiangling dialect is conducted.At the synchronic level,the phonetic system and phonetic changes of the Jiangling dialect are described;at the diachronic level,the phonological system of the Jiangling dialect is compared with that of the middle ancient times to investigate its evolution and retention of ancient sounds;at the internal level,the differences of the Jiangling dialect in terms of region,language and age groups are sorted out;at the external level,the non-linguistic factors affecting the phonological evolution of the Jiangling dialect are investigated by using documentary and comparative methods.In the external part of the article,the non-linguistic factors influencing the phonological evolution of Jiangling dialect are investigated by using documentary and comparative methods.The introduction of the paper introduces the geographical location,history,dialect profile,current status of research on Jiangling dialect,the methods and significance of research,and basic information of pronunciation collaborators in Jiangling County.The first chapter describes the phonological system of the Jiangling dialect,mainly including the phonological system and its coordination.The second chapter is the syllabary of homophones of Jiangling dialect.The third chapter compares the phonological system of the Jiangling dialect with phonology of the middle ancient times to investigate the differentiation of them and the origin of the phonology of today’s Jiangling dialect.On the other hand,analyzes the phonological characteristics and the source of phonological tones of Jiangling dialect from the three aspects of initial consonants,final consonants and tones.The fourth chapter investigates the tonal suppletion of Jiangling dialect,mainly including tone sandhi,consonants and partials,and trills.The fifth chapter combs the internal differences of Jiangling dialect,including regional differences,literary and colloquial differences,new and old school differences.The sixth chapter investigates the external factors that affect the formation and evolution of Jiangling dialect pronunciation,mainly from the perspective of language policy,geographical environment and historical immigration.The conclusion part mainly summarizes the overall situation and attribution of Jiangling dialect phonetic system.
