For a novel, the character is undoubtedly the most important factor, and the character’s ideological character is the core of the character image. So,how to better shape the characters’ ideological character becomes the key content of novel writing. As the "first good book and wonderful book since the beginning of the world","Dream of Red Mansions" has its subtlety repeatedly discussed by predecessors.Since Cao Xueqin and Zhi Yanzhai created and commented simultaneously, there has been an analysis of the characters in the text. This analysis involves all aspects of the characters, and combines with the writing style of the novel, which plays an important role in promoting the development of the story.Throughout the research on the relevant characters after the publication of A Dream of Red Mansions, the analysis of the naming of the characters has always occupied a place. The researchers have either sorted it out from the perspective of homophonics or commented on it from the perspective of poetry. However, unfortunately, the research on the naming of characters in A Dream of Red Mansions is mostly carried out horizontally, that is,it is intended to summarize and classify the naming methods of various characters. There is still insufficient longitudinal research on this.On the basis of summary and classification, few researchers have made a summary and analysis of the culture behind this phenomenon, and the discussion of the motivation set by the author is also slightly insufficient.Based on this phenomenon, this paper first sorts out the research contents and achievements of the sages, traces back to this track, interprets the Dream of Red Mansions in the era it came into being, and tries to analyze the cultural tendencies revealed by their behavior and conduct through the analysis of the naming and their fate of the main men of the five generations of the family of Jia,and then seeks the root of the question,This paper attempts to explore the influence of the cultural background of the social era on the author and the completion of A Dream of Red Mansions from the academic perspective of the Qing Dynasty. The thesis is divided into three chapters:The first chapter first introduces the meaning of names and related culture, and then sorts out the traditional interpretation of the naming of characters in A Dream of Red Mansions, and sorts out the research context about this.On this basis,it points out that the research on the naming of characters only stays at the phenomenal level, and briefly introduces the creation and related background of A Dream of Red Mansions, laying a foundation for the following discussion of the specific naming connotation. The second chapter arranges the relationship atlas of the main characters of the family of Jia,uses the academic methods used in the text creation to investigate the characters’ names and Fan characters, and compares them with the plot and the fate of the characters, and points out the reasons for the naming. The third chapter mainly discusses the influence of Qing Dynasty’s academic on the creation of A Dream of Red Mansions.First,it briefly combs the academic situation in the early Qing Dynasty, and then examines the influence of social and historical background on Cao Xueqin and the creation of A Dream of Red Mansions through cultural policy, regional influence, family factors and other aspects. In general,in a classic novel, the naming of characters no longer stays at the level of code.Throughout the book,Cao Xueqin not only integrates homophonics, poetry and other contents into the naming of characters in A Dream of Red Mansions. The relevant research on the culture behind this phenomenon and the influence of the Qing Dynasty’s academy on it can help us better understand the text and the opinions of the characters and writers.
