In contemporary literature,the novel creation of Hubei writer Chen Yingsong has unique literary value.In his nearly forty years of writing career,he has won the Lu Xun Literature Prize,the People’s Literature Prize,the Hundred Flowers Prize of Fiction Monthly,Hubei Literature Prize and other important literary awards,becoming a remarkable writer in the literary circle of Hubei in the new century.Chen Yingsong was born and grew up in Gong ’an security in Hubei Province.Gong ’an security is located in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.Rivers crisscrossing the territory,the Yangtze River runs through here,more Hudu River,Songzi River,Wuchi River and other Yangtze River tributaries run through the whole Gong ’an County,it can be said that the whole Gong ’an County is under the Yangtze River to develop.For Chen Yingsong,who grew up beside the Yangtze River,his creation cannot be separated from the Yangtze River.As he himself said,"The water of the Yangtze River will always flow in my works and life".The regional environment of his hometown had a great influence on Chen Yingsong’s creation,making the image of the Yangtze River become a distinctive symbol in his works.This paper mainly discusses from four parts.The first part mainly discusses the relationship between Yangtze River and Chen Yingsong’s novel creation.On the one hand,any literary work develops in a specific geographical space.As the largest physical geographical image of the Gong ’an,the Yangtze River exists in Chen Yingsong’s living environment.On the other hand,Chen’s five years as a sailor provided him with real literary material.The story of the boatman on the Yangtze River is an important subject of his novels.The second part mainly analyzes the presentation of the Yangtze River image in Chen Yingsong’s novels at different stages.In the 1980 s,the Yangtze River appeared in Chen Yingsong’s novels from the beginning as the scene of the story,to being used to create a mysterious and poetic atmosphere of the novel,and finally,it was gradually given the suggestive image to show the writer’s inner distress.After the new century,with the maturity of his own creative experience,Chen Yingsong consciously absorbed nourishment from ecological literature.The Yangtze River became a pronoun of nature,and describing the relationship between man and the Yangtze River was actually describing the relationship between man and nature.At this point,the Yangtze River began to enter Chen Yingsong’s childhood experience into the work,as a symbol of nature,filling the narrative gap in the novel.The third part analyses the symbolic significance of the Yangtze River image in Chen Yingsong’s novels.First of all,the Yangtze River is the source of life,but also the place of death.Life has completed the transition of life and death in the flow of the Yangtze River,and the regenerative power brought by the Yangtze River will burst out new and fresh colors of life in the cycle of nature.Secondly,as the carrier of "crossing",the Yangtze River is the road connecting "this bank" and "the other bank".The river is the turbulent life,is the failure of this shore.Chen Yingsong’s characters try to cross the vast Yangtze River to reach the world of success on the other side.However,this road is always hesitant,wavering,full of confusion,so the novel mode of "escapereturn" is shrouded in a strong tragic color;Finally,Chen Yingsong’s depiction of individual life on the Yangtze River is full of the repressed desire of human nature,but it is also used as a symbol of "washing away the sin and getting salvation" because of its flowing characteristics.Sin and redemption,it is in this contradictory body that Chen Yingsong expresses the classic proposition of "how the people at the bottom break through the suffering and realize the self-redemption of human soul".The fourth part discusses the value and limitation of the Yangtze River image in Chen Yingsong’s novels.The unique value of the Yangtze River image in Chen Yingsong’s novels lies in: on the one hand,we can perceive the pulse of The Times variation from the hierarchical change of the Yangtze River image writing in Chen Yingsong’s novels;On the other hand,we can also feel the natural charm and vitality of the Yangtze River in Jingzhou.However,due to the excessive influence of regional culture and his own experience,the writing of the Yangtze River image in Chen Yingsong’s novels is limited by such limitations as the lack of succession of ideological themes,the lack of macro narrative vision,and the strong intervention of subjective emotions.
