With the rapid development of information technology-related industries, people’s demand for material life and culture is also gradually improving, especially the rapid development of digital economy, which has promoted the transformation of China’s economic structure and also accelerated the upgrading of industrial models. The scale of China’s cultural industry has grown in recent years, and the added value of the cultural industry has increased, with annual growth rates exceeding the growth rates of the GDP of the year.Because of its high relevance and strong penetration industrial characteristics, the cultural industry has different degrees of economic and technological links with other industries, while penetrating its value into various fields of national economic production and life, which has a profound impact on important issues concerning the country’s livelihood, such as the improvement of production efficiency and the transformation of the economic development mode.By analyzing the role of China’s cultural industry on economic activities and exploring the economic effects generated by China’s cultural industry,we can better utilize the value of the cultural industry itself and its role in promoting national economic development. This paper takes Chinese cultural industry as the research object.First,it defines the relevant concepts and elaborates the relevant literature and theoretical foundations.Secondly, based on the existing literature, the current situation and problems of China’s cultural industry are comprehensively grasped. Then, the national input-output table of 2012 and 2017 is used as the mother table, and after industry sector splitting and merging,a summary table of the input-output of China’s cultural industry in 2012 and 2017 is compiled, and the direct economic effect and indirect economic effect of the sub-sectors of cultural industry among industries of the national economy are specifically measured in terms of industrial value chain, industrial linkage, employment and tax contribution using the input-output method, then, based on the panel data of 31 provinces in China from 2012 to 2020,the Feder model is constructed to measure the economic spillover effects of the cultural industry in China at the national level. Finally, the findings of this paper are summarized and corresponding countermeasures are suggested. The results show that(1)in terms of industry value chains, cultural manufacturing and cultural services have stronger direct economic ties with manufacturing and their own sectors in the upstream industry chain, while in the downstream industry chain, cultural manufacturing and cultural services have stronger direct economic ties with scientific research services and financial sectors, respectively. In terms of the complete consumption coefficient, the cultural industry has stronger economic ties with upstream industries sectors than with downstream industry sectors.(2)In terms of industry linkage, the backward linkage effect of cultural manufacturing industry is stronger and has an obvious pulling effect on the national economy;the forward linkage effect of cultural service industry is stronger and has a stronger pushing effect on the output of the national economy, and in a comprehensive view, the backward pulling effect and forward pushing effect of cultural manufacturing industry and cultural service industry are increasing significantly.(3)In terms of employment and tax contribution, the contribution of cultural manufacturing industry to employment is more from indirect contribution, while the employment contribution of cultural service industry is larger and in the middle to upper level of all industrial sectors;the direct and indirect contribution of cultural manufacturing industry to tax is larger, while the direct tax contribution of cultural service industry is more stable, but its indirect contribution to tax is steadily increasing.(4)Nationwide,cultural industry has a significant positive spillover effect on economic growth, but the direct contribution of cultural industries to economic growth is stronger while the spillover effect is weaker.Meanwhile, the cultural industry sector has higher marginal productivity compared to the non-cultural industry sector.
