A Report On E-C Translation Of Deacon King Kong(Excerpt)from The Perspective Of Stylistic Marker Theory

Deacon King Kong is the latest work by James Mc Bride,an African-American author.Starting with a sudden shooting in a community,this novel depicts the social and political environment of the United States in the 1950s and 1960s from the perspective of New York’s lower classes by revealing the intricate conflicts.The author translated Chapters 1 to 3 of Deacon King Kong,and made an analysis of the original text under the guidance of the stylistic marker theory of Liu Miqing from the four levels of formal markers—lexical markers,register markers,syntactic markers,and markers of figures of speech.Besides,strategies of corresponding,recasting,and decolouring were adopted flexibly in order to maximize the reproduction of the original style in the translation.There are six chapters in this translation practice report.The first chapter is the task description,which mainly includes the project introduction,the reasons for material selection and the significance of the project.The second chapter is the translation process,which is composed of the preliminary preparation,translating and revising.The third chapter is literature review,which gives a summary of previous studies on the translatability of style,and on whether the stylistic marker theory can be applied to the translation practice.The fourth chapter is theoretical framework,which expounds the stylistic marker theory in detail.The fifth chapter is case studies,focusing on the application of corresponding,recasting,and decolouring in the reproduction of the original style.The sixth chapter is the conclusion,which sums up the gains and defects of this translation practice.
