From the late 1920 s to the mid-1980 s,Ding Ling’s editorial career spanned nearly60 years, passing through four stages: the Leftist period, the Liberation Zone period, the early years of the People’s Republic’s establishment, and the new period. She presented her personal experience of literary creation, the evolution of literature and art,and the lives of the people in various periods. The "Red China" supplement, established in 1936,the "Liberation Daily" literary supplement, established in 1941,and the "Jinchaji Daily-Supplement," established in 1946,as the party newspaper supplement, all bear witness to Ding Ling’s editorial history during the Liberation Zone and more accurately reflect the process of literary changes in the Liberation Zone.As a result, this paper uses Ding Ling’s editorial practice during the PLA period as its primary area of investigation and focuses on three literary publications edited during this time.It presents the specific trajectory and ideological development process of Ding Ling’s editorial practice and separates out the historical construction and transformation process of the creative groups of intellectuals and workers, peasants and soldiers during this time.In an effort to revive the intricate system of literary and artistic production in the Liberation Zone in its original form,it also examines the textual forms and underlying qualities of literary and artistic origination in the Liberation Zone at significant times in history.Through four chapters, this essay contrasts Ding Ling’s unique editorial style around four factors: her self-awareness,the use of literary supplements, the development of readership and creative groups, and the interaction and transformation of the two types of groups. It also examines the interaction and historical development trend of the editorial form of literary supplements. We hope to delve into the specific ecological environment of revolutionary supplemental literature and art in a particular era through the study of the various elements of editorial activity and their interactions in order to explore the various factors governing editorial practice and their fundamental impact on literature and art in the liberated areas. The first chapter is devoted to Ding Ling’s editorial pursuits during the time of his freedom from the vicissitudes of cultural ecology and historiographical flux. The production of each supplement and its cultural identity are actually determined by the particular ecological environment in which they are rooted. The historical scene produced by the distinctive social and human ecology of the Liberation Zone itself was the biggest ecological environment in the case of the Liberation Zone and Ding Ling’s editorial work. This literary group as a whole finished the ideological transformation and identity change under the influence of the literary policy and the Rectification Movement, and they became new figures in literary creation confronting the Party and the workers, peasants, and soldiers.Ding Ling’s literary and creative supplements satiated this need.Following the war’s conclusion,Ding Ling’s editorial philosophies shifted, and the Jinchaji Daily,a supplement she established, gradually developed into a comprehensive publication with a definite revolutionary orientation. The three literary supplements changed from being literary columns to comprehensive supplements, and from being a "imperfect party newspaper" to a "complete party newspaper," reflecting the editorial actions of Ding Ling as they changed over time. The second part discusses how editorial activity has changed as a result of the two primary drivers of genreality, dingling and the creative community. The editorial activity of soliciting, submitting, reviewing, and publishing the supplement is formed by the interaction between Dingling, the editor-in-chief,newspaper staff members, and writers of various identities. This interaction greatly influences the creative tendencies, the content of manuscripts, and the format of the supplement in the liberation zone. The direction and content of the supplement were specifically decided by Ding Ling, the editor-in-chief,and the newspaper staff during the writing, reviewing, and editing process, which changed the supplement from a peer-reviewed periodical to a revolutionary newspaper;at the same time, the way of running the supplement changed from a literary group to a party-run journal, and the editorial and creative groups developed in concert to build a special supplement presenting the struggle and construction of the liberated areas.Ding Ling’s cognitive notion of editorial identity and editorial philosophy changed as a result of the change in the journal’s characteristics and method of operation, shifting from identifying with the revolution to serving it.The shift in editorial philosophy had an impact on the shift in creative philosophy, which together revealed the editor Dingling’s and the creative team’s spiritual readiness to assimilate mainstream doctrine. The textual level of the literary editing is examined in Chapter 3 and is represented in the supplement as a multi-dimensional,profound change that also includes historical derivation.Ding Ling presents various sub-publish types through various agenda setting, starting with the creative connection between people and the press and the subpublish as a byproduct of editorial practice. The people in the liberated areas develop a strong emotional identity and a common value tendency as a result of the agenda tendency of Ding Ling’s subject consciousness tending to fade and the mainstream ideology gradually increasing, which profoundly reflects the shift from enlightenment discourse to revolutionary discourse. The compliance of literary content and literary forms, such as literary criticism and ideological concepts, with the statute of the literary system, the realistic content of creation, and the popularization of literary forms are the main manifestations of the change in the discourse of the supplemental press. The agenda-setting and discourse-generating effects of the supplements influenced the authors’ creative accomplishments, and the audience concept of literary works changed accordingly. The audience group changed from the misplaced imaginary audience group under the establishment of the anti-Japanese united front to the workers, peasants, and soldiers group. In terms of effect demonstration, dissemination, and diffusion,Chapter 4 discusses the impact and basic constructive significance of the supplemental press’ editorial practice on literature and art in the liberated areas. The editorial practice of the supplements served as a platform for literary publication, created a literary community in the liberated areas, and served as a mediator in the revolutionary struggle as well as in directing literary growth and reshaping the literary system. The three literary and artistic supplements were simultaneously governed by the literary and artistic system of the liberated areas, and Ding Ling’s editorial process demonstrated an editorial tendency of worker-peasant-soldierization,which established the mainstream ideological discourse system and subsequently promoted the establishment of a new literary and artistic order. As a result,Ding Ling’s editorial process was crucial in fostering influence and agitation in the struggle and construction of the new literary and artistic order. His editorial strategies and expertise served as a model for modern party publications and literary supplements.
