Abstract/Summary:
Chinese literature has a tradition of paying attention to the people and the bottom class, and the Bottom-class literature of each generation has different representations of the times. At the beginning of the new century, external social changes and internal literary development jointly promoted literary attention to the disadvantaged groups in society at that time, and the " Bottom-class literature" craze emerged, focusing on the lives of materially poor, mentally vulnerable and low status groups in the modern context. When observing the Bottom-class narratives in different works,it is easy to find that Wang’s works have the commonality of Bottom-class literature,i.e.,they intervene in reality, take the life of the Bottom-class as the object of writing, and show their physical hardship and spiritual struggle, but also have their individuality,i.e.,they break the mold of rendering hardship and theme first, explore the hot issues of society in depth, and analyze the contradictions between the Bottom-class and the outside world. In this paper,we will take the Bottom-class narratives in Wang Xiangfu’s works as the research object, and discuss four aspects from the text, mainly from the intervention posture, the current situation of the Bottom-class,the expression of the Bottom-class and the value and significance of the Bottom-class narratives.Part I: In constructing the Bottom-class world under his pen,Wang Xiangfu always insists on the gesture of facing the reality, believing that more thinking can find the wonderful interest in the ordinary life, and the complexity of the daily life of the Bottom-class people precisely needs rational thinking,so Wang Xiangfu combines rational thinking with emotional expression to dig out the profound meaning behind the stories. This chapter discusses three aspects: first,it analyzes the way of thinking presented in Wang Xiangfu’s works from two aspects, namely, the angle of entry and the depth of thinking;second,it analyzes the rational social recording nature of Wang Xiangfu’s works from two aspects, namely, recording the composition of people and expressing the flow of classes;third,it analyzes the humanitarian expression contained in Wang Xiangfu’s works from two aspects, namely, expressing the sense of resistance and expressing the sense of life.Part II: The survival of the Bottom-class is the main object of Bottom-class literature, and the tragedies are caused by the internal or external conflicts that squeeze the physical and mental space of individuals. Therefore, studying the survival of the Bottom-class and their spiritual changes in the modern context is an important entry point for analyzing Wang Xiangfu’s novels and an important path for studying his Bottom-class narratives. This chapter explores Wang Xiangfu’s observations and representations of the current state of life of the Bottom-class in terms of the impact of material deprivation, poor social relations and imbalanced gender relations on the mental state of the Bottom-class.Part III: While some of the literature on the Bottom-class has been criticized for emphasizing content over form,Wang Xiangfu finds a balance between social and literary values and expresses the Bottom-class with rich and varied writing techniques, fully demonstrating the unity of peoplehood and artistry that characterizes intellectual advocacy. This chapter analyzes the three perspectives of structure, language and perspective, and explores how his writing techniques serve to represent the Bottom-class.Part IV: Wang Xiangfu’s works combine the spirit of the thick earth cultivated by Shanxi literature and the spirit of rationality embedded in the literature of the Bottom-class,while at the same time opening up new horizons for both kinds of literature, and how to locate the value and significance of Wang Xiangfu’s works in literary history requires comparing them with members of other groups. This chapter explores the differences and differences between Wang Xiangfu and Zhao Shuli, and the similarities and differences between Wang Xiangfu’s works and those of Ge Shuiping, who was also a member of the "post-Jinjun" group, and explores the value and significance of Wang Xiangfu’s novels to Shanxi literature. The work of Wang Xiangfu’s novels is also briefly analyzed to discuss the value and significance of the Bottom-class narratives in Wang Xiangfu’s works.
