A Study Of Three-syllable Speculative Mood Adverbs In Modern Chinese

Mood adverbs in Chinese are usually placed at the beginning or the middle of a sentence to modify the whole sentence,Trisyllabic mood adverbs are usually express the speaker’s subjective emotions and evaluations,have the characteristics of strong colloquialism and vivid expression,and have a trend of increasing in quantity in the development and use of Chinese language.This article takes trisyllabic mood adverbs in modern Chinese as the research object,selects 34 trisyllabic mood adverbs based on authoritative dictionaries and corpora,defines and classifies them first,proposes judgment criteria and classification bases,and then conducts research on their syntactic and semantic characteristics and evolutionary development from both synchronic and diachronic perspectives.It compares the definitions in dictionaries,discusses the problems in terms of entry and interpretation,and provides specific and reasonable suggestions.The main content of this article can be summarized into three parts: The first part is classification.The selection and research scope of trisyllabic mood adverbs are defined from a syntactic perspective,distinguishing between words and phrases.Based on previous studies and the connotation of "mood" concept,the basis for further research is explored by dividing trisyllabic mood adverbs into two categories:functional and volitional,and then further subdividing each category.The second part analyzes the selected trisyllabic mood adverbs from synchronic and diachronic perspectives,revealing their syntactic and semantic characteristics,and sorting out the historical development of trisyllabic mood adverbs,clarifying that their synchronic characteristics are the result of diachronic evolution.The third part,based on the overall grasp of trisyllabic mood adverbs,analyzes the relevant information of trisyllabic mood adverbs in authoritative dictionaries from the perspective of dictionary definitions,explores the characteristics and existing problems of entry and interpretation,and provides reasonable suggestions for dictionary compilation and revision.
