| The textbook Collection of Cooperation Stories between China and Arab Countries was jointly produced by the Ningxia House of Wisdom Cultural Industry Group and the Cross-cultural Discourse Research Group of the School of International Education of Ningxia University. With the real cooperation stories between China and Arab countries as the basic materials, the textbooks were designed with a natural and popular style, familiar topics, and a scientific and rigorous curriculum. It has achieved accurate integration with the content and level of the Chinese Proficiency Test(HSK),making it a verifiable tool for teaching and learning. At the same time, qualified textbook translations can provide learners with cultural knowledge and other background information, help them understand the learning content, simplify the learning process, and improve learning efficiency, which is of great significance in language learning, knowledge dissemination, and cultural popularization. Therefore, this translation task has high practical and research value.Based on the “translator-centeredness” and the “three-dimensional”transformation in Eco-translatology,this report explains the problems of ChineseEnglish translation in the textbook for teaching Chinese as a foreign language, the Collection of Cooperation Stories between China and Arab Countries. As the subject of translation with rich experience, the translator discussed how to choose proper expressions that were easy for the target audience from a different cultural environment to adapt to their learning, understanding, and communication needs at different stages by way of selective adaptation and adaptive selection from the three dimensions.Under the guidance of Eco-translatology,the translators analyzed the difficulties encountered in the translation process from linguistic, cultural and communicative dimensions. In terms of linguistic dimension, the translator employed literal translation and liberation translation methods such as addition, division and combination to adaptively transform Chinese sentences and Chinese words in the glossary that have smaller scopes compared with their English equivalents, hoping to adapt to the target language style and the acceptance level of Chinese learners. In terms of the cultural dimension, the translator adopts transliteration, literal translation, and free translation from Aixelá’s translation strategies of cultural-specific items to transform the ecological, material, and socio-cultural expressions in the original text to conform to the environment of the target culture; In light of the demands from the communicative dimension, the translator adopted techniques such as addition, combination, inversion, and shift based on literal translation and liberation translation to ensure the cohesion of the text and the transmission of metaphorical meanings. The translator hopes that the translation of this text can not only improve the efficiency of Chinese language learners, but also enhance their understanding of the corresponding culture to meet learning needs and stimulate learning interest. This article provides a new theoretical perspective for the translation of TCFL textbooks, and aims to summarize the translation methods and techniques under the guidance of ecological translation theory, providing a certain reference for future relevant research and proposing some effective methods and paths for improving the effectiveness of Chinese learning and promotion. |
