| Listening is one of the fundamental skills in English learning.However,the effectiveness of English listening teaching currently is far from satisfactory,posing a challenge for students in English learning.In the current English listening teaching practice,students’ inner psychological and emotional needs have not received adequate attention.Based on the author’ s experience of internship teaching and listening observation classes,most of the English listening teaching in junior high school has the following problems:high levels of anxiety among students,lack of enjoyable learning experience and low sense of subjective well-being in English learning.To improve the effectiveness of listening teaching,the English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Revision)proposes that attention should be paid to students’ emotional development so as to foster their positive learning attitudes,inspire their initiatives and utilize their character strengths to optimize teaching outcomes.Based on the aforementioned issues,this study applies a combination of flow theory,subjective well-being theory and self-efficacy theory to explore the effects on junior high school students of employing the concepts of PP in English listening training.The main research questions discussed in this thesis are as follows: 1)From the perspective of PP,what are students’ problems in the process of English listening learning? 2)Compared with the conventional English listening teaching mode,what effects does the application of PP exert on students’ listening learning in junior high schools?Focusing on the above two research questions,a three-month experiment based on English listening teaching mode in junior high schools was conducted.There were totally1 2 9 students taken as research subjects,who were all from two parallel classes in Senior Two of a junior high school in Hefei.One of the classes was the experimental class,which was taught English listening under the concepts of positive psychology,and the other class was the control class,in which the conventional English listening teaching mode was utilized.Information from questionnaires,interview,classroom observation,listening assessment tests and teachers’ reflective journals was collected and analyzed with SPSS Statistics 26.0 software.The qualitative and quantitative results indicate that: 1)Most students suffer from various degrees of fear or anxiety about English listening and they scarcely experience enjoyment in English listening training.2)The application of PP to listening teaching mode in junior high schools plays a great role in arousing students’ listening interest,alleviating their listening anxiety,enhancing their listening enjoyment and improving their listening competence. |
