A Study On The Current Situation Of Chinese Online Romantic Novels In North America And Promotion Strategies From The Perspective Of Intercultural Communication

At present,new media has been widespread all over the world,which provides a new channel for the spread of culture.With the further development of international communication,the generalization of Chinese continues to advance.Meanwhile,Chinese online novels become booming among English-speaking countries,gaining popularity in overseas audience.Foreign readers even specially establish translation websites for Chinese online novels to meet reading needs,and the fact of which also attracts attention from the academe.The overseas popularity of the novel represents the acceptance as well as recognition of foreign readers as it demonstrates the direction of popular culture.Consequently,there is possibility that online novels can shoulder the mission spreading Chinese culture,and provide perspectives in thinking about how to share Chinese culture with other countries.Nevertheless,due to the restrictions of translation as well as intercultural misunderstanding,online novels still have difficulties in spreading and developing overseas.This thesis choses romantic novels of the North American translation platform and readers as the research subjects to discuss the intercultural factors that were accepted and misinterpreted in the process of its communication,so as to provide effective advice for the overseas communication of Chinese culture.First of all,starting from both the platform and the audience,the author sorts out romantic novels and the main reading platforms as well as works in the North America,and then adopts the investigation method to collect relevant data of the North American readers to illustrate the North American readers’ portraits.Secondly,through the data and readers’ comments,this thesis analyzes the intercultural reasons for overseas acceptance and misreading of online romantic novels to explore cultural similarities and differences.Moreover,elements of Chinese traditional culture will be explored according to the content of novels.At last,strategies and suggestions for the problems in the previous text will be put forward,which will bring inspiration to the Chinese language generalization and the overseas communication of Chinese culture.
