In class,teachers transfer knowledge to students and cultivate students mainly through interaction,and verbal interaction is the main content and process of interaction.How to improve the quality of verbal interaction in primary school English classroom has always been the main part of classroom teaching and educational research.On the basis of symbolic interaction theory,social interaction theory and constructivism theory,this paper adopts the improved Flanders interaction analysis system and take 8 lessons selected from the 16 th National Primary School English Teachers’ Basic Teaching Skills Competition in May 2022 as examples and carefully studies classroom videos,which describes the characteristics of classroom verbal interaction through matrix analysis and explores the level of interaction;Combined with the analysis of classroom fragments,it finds out the shortcomings and problems in the verbal interaction between teachers and students in the classroom,then puts forward targeted suggestions to improve the verbal interaction of primary school English teachers in order to improve their teaching quality.Through the analysis,it is found that there are the following problems in the verbal interaction between teachers and students in primary English classroom: students lack divergent thinking;Teachers’ positive influence is weak;Teachers have low indirect influence.The reasons for the problem are as follows: Teaching environment hinders the improvement of students’ thinking ability;Teachers lack acceptance of students’ emotion;Teachers ignore indirect effects.To solve the above problems,the following strategies are put forward: Optimize the design of teachers’ classrooms and stimulate their thinking ability;Improve teachers’ language level and accept students’ emotions;Change teachers’ speech tendency from direct speech to indirect speech.This study not only enriches the theoretical connotation of teacher-student verbal interaction in primary English classroom,but also arouses the attention of primary English teachers on teacherstudent interaction in classroom.It can provide important guidance and reference for primary English teachers to improve the quality of teacher-student interaction in class.In addition,this study also has some reference value for teachers of other learning sections and disciplines to improve teacher-student interaction in the classroom.
