| The source text of this report is taken from Chapter 4 of Re-platforming the Airline Business by Professor Taneja.Due to the specific syntactic and structural features of business texts, complex sentences are frequently used when discussing the role of intelligent platforms in industrial development. These complex sentences carry a lot of information and use numerous modifiers, parentheses, and clauses.Furthermore,to make the information objective and accurate, passive voice is also often used. Therefore, when translating complex sentences,it is important to correctly deal with the language differences in sequence and voice to ensure the quality of the translation.Based on Reiss’ s Text Typology Theory, the translator summarizes two translation principles of informative texts, namely accuracy and readability. On this basis, the report first uses “cutting” to fully convey the information of source texts. Then it employs “embedding”,“reversing”,and “restructuring” to adjust the word order, and “shift”,“addition”,and“conversion” to deal with passive voice. In this way,by adjusting the word order, the translation is consistent with the narrative rules and logical relationships of Chinese sentences.Furthermore, passive voice translation can prevent the target texts from carrying negative semantic meanings. And it clearly explains the agent-patient relationship. As a result, readability can be achieved.Through this practice, the translator summarizes some translation techniques under the guidance of theory from the perspectives of sequence and voice, hoping to provide some reference for the translation of complex sentences in informative texts. |
