Study Of Verbs Bound With Complement

This paper takes Verbs Bound with Complement in modern Chinese as the research object,starting from the concept of free form and bound form,and adhering to the principle of combining description and explanation,diachronic and synchronic on the basis of the collection,sorting and analysis of a large amount of corpus,conducts a systematic investigation on the characteristics of Verbs Bound with Complement,their internal differences and related verb-complement structures,in order to have a more in-depth understanding and application of these verbs.The paper defines the Verbs Bound with Complement.It gives the theoretical definition of Verbs Bound with Complement,and put forward an operational procedure for them.A total of 56 Verbs Bound with Complement were retrieved from the list of verbs in Modern Chinese Dictionary(7th edition),including 22 typical and34 atypical.Then it reveals the nature,syllable,semantics,structure and stylistic features of Verbs Bound with Complements.The abstractness of the semantic of this kind of verbs is mainly manifested as its fundamental properties of weak action and weak time.The strength of its features of action is positively correlated with the strength of time.Verbs Bound with Complement have the characteristics of disyllabic word,the predicate-object structure and the written style.There are 6 types of complements of Verbs Bound with Complement.There is a certain correspondence between the semantic meaning and the structure of the complement of the Verbs Bound with Complement.6 types of complement which respectively express the starting point of the action,the ending point of the action,the place where the action takes place,the object of the action,the tendency of the action and the result of the action,can be divided into exact 2 structural types: the former 4types are in prepositional structure,and the latter 2 types are non-prepositional structure.Then this paper discusses the nature of bound of these verbs and its causes from the synchronic perspective.The bound of complement are due to semantic needs and pragmatic needs.There are differences in the viscosity within Verbs Bound with Complements,and a continuum is formed within these verbs according to the level of the viscosity.As for the diachronic perspective,the generation of Verbs Bound with Complements is closely related to the development of Chinese verb-complement structure.The main mechanism of Verbs Bound with Complements are disyllabic trend in Chinese,fusion of the verb and the tendency complement,and redistribution of prepositional phrases.This paper offers suggestions on teaching of Verbs Bound with Complements.It is suggested that these verbs should be taught in chunks,which can be divided into phrase frame and fixed match.
