The period between Zhou Zuoren’s release from prison in 1949 and his death in1967 is considered as his "old age" by the academic circle. This paper mainly studies Zhou Zuoren’s creation and leisure aesthetic thoughts during this period.Centering on "people" and based on daily life,Zhou Zuoren created a large number of leisure articles. He not only inherited the "civilian literature view" in the "May Fourth" period, but also drew close to the "people oriented" art view in the 1950 s,and started the leisure culture in the 1980 s,which has an important position in the history of modern leisure literature. In the first chapter of this paper,Zhou Zuoren’s three creative climax in his later years as a time line to sort out his creation. From 1949 to 1952 was the first period of his high tide of creation.Zhou Zuoren mainly wrote columns for Yisheng Newspaper, including political situation, ideological transformation of intellectuals and reminiscence essays. The period from 1956 to 1958 was the second period of high tide of his creation.Influenced by the "Double Hundred policy" and the 20 th anniversary of Lu Xun’s death,Zhou Zuoren created a large number of articles and casual essays about Lu Xun,which met the needs of the public for reading and leisure. From 1963 to 1964 was the third period of his high tide of creation. With the help of Cao Juren and others,Zhou Zuoren published his knowledgeable and interesting essays and essays in overseas newspapers, and completed the most important work in his later years,Zhitang Recollections. In his heart,Zhou Zuoren returned to the state of "lowering his head and focusing on the game, forgetting the mounds on the setting sun".The second chapter makes an in-depth study of the text, and explores the artistic characteristics of Zhou Zuoren’s creation in his later years from the theme, tone and artistic pursuit. In terms of subject matter,Zhou Zuoren tries to draw closer to the "people oriented" art view, and uses the writing technique of "seeing the big with the small" to construct a "life world".In terms of language,Zhou Zuoren advocates plain and simple language, showing the characteristics of "the people" and the idea of "freedom and equality".Aesthetically, his articles pursue intellectual interest and leisure interest, with "mixed in simple" characteristics.Chapter three explores the ideological origin of leisure aesthetics in Zhou Zuoren’s later years. The early learning and experience made Zhou Zuoren gradually move towards plain and simple life aesthetic road, while Ellis’ "nature" and "mean" thought influenced Zhou Zuoren’s leisure aesthetic concept. From the Confucian and Taoist philosophy of pre-Qin Dynasty to the freedom and randomness of the famous scholars of Wei and Jin Dynasties,to the essays of "expressing the spirit of nature alone" in the late Ming Dynasty,Zhou Zuoren absorbed the leisure view of traditional Chinese culture. The fourth chapter reappraises the value of leisure thought in Zhou Zuoren’s old age in the new era.One is the aesthetic value of the content. His works in his later years fit in with the love of life, food and nature of the "slow" life in the new era,and have a certain leisure, helping people to find the beauty of life and life. The second is the artistic value of creation. The theme of his creation in his later years seems to be scattered, but he always runs through the modern and traditional, and what he sees and hears does not leave the subject of "people",which has a kind of inward stretching life experience and artistic value of soothing the soul.
