In recent years, the development of IT industry and technology, especially smartphones and other digital devices, have witnessed the dramatic changes in the way of living, working, learning as well as communicating for modern people. In terms of education, there are more educators as well as learners who are making use of these smart devices and learning resources on the Internet to facilitate their teaching or learning process.Such practice are known as Electronic-learning,which refers to the online learning with digital learning resources. Then with the occurrence of Coivd-19 pandemic that forces many people to stay indoor, the online education platforms and applications experienced a period of rapid growth. As such,E-learning are getting more attentions, and more English learners accept this new way of language learning.Meanwhile,English vocabulary learning,a fundamental part of English learning, also benefits from E-learning.So "how to make use of E-learning in order to improve the learning of English vocabulary" is exactly what this dissertation aims to discover.Based on the review of related literature on E-learning and English vocabulary learning theories, this dissertation mainly adopts the quantitative research method and try to combine cross-sectional and longitudinal research data to ensure validity and reliability. The research questions are designed as follows: 1.Do learners who keep study English with E-learning method has their English vocabulary grades better than the learners who don’t? 2.Do learners who keep study with E-learning method has their English vocabulary grades getting improved as time goes? 3.How should educators make use of E-learning to help the learners with their English vocabulary learning? To answer these questions, the author designed a non-experimental research that takes sample from the grade eight students of Wuhan No.12 Junior High School.Interviews are designed to count the numbers of students who keep study English with E-learning method and to collect their basic information.Meanwhile, the school provided the scores of four major English exams for grade eight students since their enrollment. Then the author sorted out the scores that related to vocabulary of each exam, and use SPSS to do the analysis.According to the cross-sectional and longitudinal data, some major findings are shown: it’s not statistically significant that the learners who keep study English with E-learning method has better English vocabulary scores;and it is significant for learners who keep E-learning method has their English vocabulary grades getting improved during grade seven, yet not significant in grade eight.the outcome exposes some of the limitations of the research, and one main factor is that the number of students who try E-learning method is still small. From this result, implications and suggestions can be drawn as schools and educators could cooperate with online education platforms to facilitate the English learning with E-learning method, and start programs to explore the practice of combining the teaching in classroom with the learning online. |
