Illustration is the second language of textbook,and it is an important part of language teaching.There are a large number of illustrations in the English Go for it textbooks of compulsory education.Taking them as the research object,this paper explores the application of textbook illustrations in different types of English lessons by combining classroom observation and case analysis on the basis of illustration effect research,illustration strategy research,dual coding theory,cognitive load theory and other theories.The thesis is divided into two parts.The first part analyzes the quantity of illustrations in Go for it textbooks,and makes statistics from the total amount of illustrations,the degree of abstraction,the form of organization,the position of illustrations and the functions of illustrations.Illustrations in textbooks are large in quantity and variety.In terms of the degree of abstraction,cartoon illustrations are mainly used in the lower grades,and the proportion of real photos and charts increases with each grade.In terms of organization form,illustrations in textbooks are mainly independent drawings.The position of the illustration is on the same page as the text.From the aspect of illustration function,illustrations with representation function are mainly used,while organization function,interpretation function and transformation function are less.In the second part,the English lesson types are divided into listening and speaking class,reading class,grammar class,writing class and reviewing class.The distribution of illustrations in each class is analyzed,and the application of illustrations are analyzed based on the typical cases in five class types.This study believes that the situational role of illustration should be played in listening and speaking class,and teachers should pay attention to the redundant details of illustration.In the reading class,pictures should be used to stimulate the interest and predict the content of the article.During the reading process,illustrations and articles are converted to obtain article information and sort out article structure.Teachers can use illustrations to explain grammar rules and help students memorize the rules.In the writing class,teachers use the illustrations with organization function to help students brainstorm to enrich their writing ideas and construct the structure.The illustrations in the reviewing lesson can follow the use pattern of "recalling-organizing-analyzing-practicing". |
