Research On The Meaning Of The "N₁+N₂" Modifier-Head Com-Pound Word And Its Relationship Between The Prosody

Taking the"N ₁+N ₂"modifier-head compound words in the Modern Chinese Dictionary（7th Edition）as the research object,this paper labels the"N ₁+N ₂"modifier-head compound word from the four perspectives of semantic category,semantic structure,semantic generation mechanism and prosody,and establishes the semantic-prosody database of"N ₁+N ₂"modifier-head compound word,which contains a total of 3305 two-syllable words,770 2+1 three-syllable words,and 186 1+2-type three-syllable words,for a total of 4268 words.On this basis,this paper studies the static semantic categories and semantic structures and the dynamic semantic generation mechanism,and explores the relationship between them and prosody.In terms of semantic categories,"N ₁+N ₂"is a formal compound word,with 3 first-level semantic categories of organisms,natural objects and artificial objects,and 14 second-level semantic categories such as people,animals and natural substances.Among the three first-level semantic categories,the number of man-made objects is the largest,and the natural objects are the least.Of the14 secondary semantic categories,man-made objects-objects and creature-people are the two strongest categories.In terms of semantic structure,"N ₁+N ₂"modifier-head compound words have a total of 19 semantic structures,we take the proportion of the total number more than the average as the standard,a total of 6 strong semantic structures are domain+thing,object+thing,space+thing,material+thing,morphology+thing,nature+thing,6 strong semantic structures account for 70.34%of the total,covering more than seventy percent of the words in the database.In terms of dynamic semantic generation mechanism,"N ₁+N ₂"modifier-head compound words are divided into three stages:morpheme term meaning generation,combination generation and overall word meaning generation,and five semantic generation methods,namely prime meaning transfer,semantic addition,semantic addition,semantic interference and word sense transfer.The dynamic meaning generation of morpheme terms mainly uses the formal role of the things referred to by the morpheme term to generate dynamic meaning.The default meanings between morpheme terms mainly use the telic role and the constitutive role of the"N ₂"morpheme term.Finally,in terms of the relationship between semantics and prosody,the three secondary semantic categories did not show a significant relationship with prosody.In the tertiary semantic category,"natural objects-celestial bodies"showed obvious 2+1prosody pattern tendency,while"natural object-object part"and"artificial object-object part"showed 1+2 prosody pattern tendency.In the semantic structure,"supplement+thing"tends to be two-syllable words,and"name+thing"tends to be 2+1 three-syllable words.In terms of dynamic generation mechanism,the two-syllable word has a balanced ability to produce dynamic meaning,and the three-syllable word"N ₂"can hardly produce dynamic meaning;Two-syllable and 2+1 three-syllable words mainly use the"N ₂"telic role and the constitutive role to fill in the default meaning,while 1+2three-syllable words mainly fill the default meaning through the"N₂"telic role.
