Abstract/Summary:
Our perception of time is not always stable and it can be adaptively distorted by changing circumstances. The overestimation/underestimation effect of perceived duration is an important part of our subjective reality, and it happens every day.Among the various factors affecting time perception, the factor of emotion is very important.Based on the previous studies on emotion and time perception,it is found that there are still differences in the influence of emotional valence and arousal on time perception. In addition, with the advent of the 5G era,the network has become more and more important in our lives. It has created a new situation with the network as the medium—the network situation. The "media situation theory" believes that the new situation may generate new Social behavior and social cognition. Therefore, this study explores the time perception in online and non-internet contexts, the influence of emotional valence and emotional arousal on time perception, and the influence of emotional valence and arousal in online and non-internet contexts on time perception through time replication tasks.Impact.This research mainly includes two experiments: Experiment 1 uses network positive emotion words, network negative emotion words, network neutral emotion words, nonnetwork positive emotion words,non-network negative emotion words and non-network neutral emotion words Pictures are presented as stimuli to discuss the impact of emotional valence on time perception in different situations.Experiment 2 used high-arousal emotional words on the Internet,low-arousal emotional words on the Internet,non-internet higharousal emotional words, and pictures of non-Internet low-arousal emotional words as experimental stimuli, aiming to discuss the influence of emotional arousal on time perception in different situations. The results of Experiment 1 and Experiment 2 found that: there are differences in the time perception of the subjects in the Internet situation and the non-Internet situation, and the subjects will be more likely to estimate the duration of the Internet situation;emotional valence and emotional arousal can affect the subjects’ time perception.Time perception: There are differences in the effect of emotion on the time perception of the subjects under the network situation and the non-network situation.Based on the research results of Experiment 1 and Experiment 2,the following conclusions are drawn:(1)Compared with the non-network situation, the participants in the network situation have a longer perception of time,a poorer ability to accurately perceive time, and a more unstable representation of time perception.(2)Emotional valence and arousal can affect the time perception of the subjects.Compared with the positive emotional stimuli, the subjects will estimate the duration of the negative emotional stimuli more, and the perception error of the duration of the negative emotional stimuli is smaller.Larger and more unstable;compared with low-arousal emotional stimuli, subjects will estimate the duration of high-arousal emotional stimuli more, and their perception accuracy for the duration of high-arousal emotional stimuli is worse and more unstable.(3)Compared with neutral emotional stimuli, subjects in non-Internet context will overestimate the duration of negative emotional stimuli, and subjects in Internet context will underestimate the duration of positive emotional stimuli.(4)In the non-internet context, high arousal emotional stimuli showed a higher temporal overestimation effect than low arousal emotional stimuli, but this overestimation effect was not found in the online context.
