The Construction Method Of "Image Seed" In Character Image Shaping

"Image seed" refers to that actors seek an image to describe the characteristics of the characters they are playing when shaping characters.It was first proposed by Danchenko and further developed in Stanislavsky’s works.Finally,it was introduced into China by director Xu Xiaozhong,who studied in the Soviet Union,and carried out a large number of localized stage practices,which also influenced many directors and actors."Image seed" is symbolic and creative.It germinates in the process of character image conception and in the soil of actors’ internal and external actions,waiting to germinate,so as to guide the actors’ imagination of the characters’ thinking mode,language form,walking,sitting and lying,and give the actors a hint of shaping the stage character image.In this paper,the author of the script,the background of creation and the subtext are conceived.The first and second selves,the relationships between the characters and the whole play and the characters are built.The typical external image features in life are sought,and the typical environment in which the characters live is actively experienced.The second is the process of cultivating "image seeds",in which actors learn to cultivate the soil between the lines of the script and absorb nutrients from all aspects of life.This is what Danchenko calls letting it rot in the actors’ minds,grow in the stage actions they choose to play the characters,and present in the characters’ external images,psychological situations and self-feelings.Finally,taking the role creation of Jiang Xiaohong in the graduation play Red Plastic Bucket in the Shade as the entry point,the stage presentation of the character image seed "Arctic Ocean Soda in the Dog days of Summer" is carried out,and the practical achievements and reflections of the method of using "image seed" to shape the character image on the stage are summarized,combined with the research of personal performance practice cases and theoretical methods.This provides new ideas for actors to create roles.
