In order to explore the applicability of the dual system model in restrained eating, this research investigated the characteristics of food cue attention bias and inhibitory control of restrained eaters through three studies, and analyzed the relationship between them and eating score(average of DEBQEM and DEBQ-EX),so as to explore the applicability of the Dual System Model. The Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire(DEBQ)was used to select 140 subjects, and 4subjects were lost during the experiments(2 female failed restrained eaters and 2 male unrestrained eaters). There are 136 subjects who participated in the experiments,15 male successful restrained eaters,20 female successful restrained eaters,15 male failed restrained eaters,28 female failed restrained eaters,28 male unrestrained eaters and 30 female unrestrained eaters.Study 1 used a mixed experimental design of 3(emotion: negative emotion vs positive emotion vs neutral emotion)* 6(group: male / female successful restrained eaters vs male / female failed restrained eaters vs male /female unrestrained eaters)* 3(probe position: consistent, inconsistent, neutral)to investigate the characteristics of attention bias of restrained eaters.Study 2 used a mixed experimental design of 3(emotion: negative emotion vs positive emotion vs neutral emotion)* 6(group: male / female successful restrained eaters vs male / female failed restrained eaters vs male / female unrestrained eaters)to investigate the characteristics of inhibitory control of restrained eaters.Study 3 investigated the relationship between attention bias, inhibitory control and eating scores of restrained eaters under different emotions,so as to explore the applicability of the dual system model in restricted eating. The research found that male restrained eaters showed difficulty in attention disengagement towards low calorie food in neutral emotion, while male unrestrained eaters showed attentional avoidance; In the degree of attentional avoidance of low calorie food, unrestrained eaters were significantly higher than restrained eaters, and successful restrained eaters were significantly higher than failed restrained eaters. There was no significant difference in the attention bias of low calorie food between emotions or gender. The attentional avoidance towards high calorie food of unrestrained eaters was significantly higher than that of restrained eaters. The scores of attentional bias to highcalorie food of female failed restrained eaters were significantly higher than those of female successful restrained eaters. The variability of TL-BS in positive emotions was significantly higher than that in negative emotions. The attention bias score of male restrained eaters on high calorie food was significantly higher than that of female restrained eaters.Among male, the error rate of Go trials of failed restrained eaters was significantly higher than that of successful restrained eaters. There was no significant difference in inhibitory control between different emotions. The error rate of Go trials in male restrained eaters is significantly higher than that in female restrained eaters. In restrained eaters, the dual system model is confirmed in positive and neutral emotions, but not in negative emotions. To sum up,this research compared the gender differences and emotional differences in attention bias and inhibition control, and comprehensively considered the effects of Impulsive System and Reflective System on eating behavior under the framework of the Dual System Theory,so as to improve the understanding of restrained eating. |
